Why Repeating Yourself Doesn’t Work (and a tip for something that does!)

“If you say it three times... your child’s brain already stopped listening.”

I learned this during classroom clean-up - walking around reminding, reminding, reminding. Nothing.
Then I stopped everything. Brought kids to circle. Asked each one what their job was. Offered support. Said ‘come back for a final check.’
I sat back... and the magic happened. They actually did it.
Why? Connection and clarity beat repetition every time.”
“Stop repeating” → “Connect first” → “Clarify once” → “Let them lead”
