Hello Aviation Enthusiasts!
We are happy to bring another successful Aviation Expedition in for a safe landing!
It was our pleasure to show some young aviators the ins and outs of the aviation industry and offer them their first steps to becoming a pilot.
As always we thank Aspen Flying Club for the generous use of their facilities and the expertise of their flight instructors, mechanics, and amazing staff. We couldn't do it without you!
A heartfelt thanks also goes out to AirCam for carving out some time for us to check our their cool helicopters!
Last but not least, we are again grateful to Ron and his ATC staff for allowing us to come up to the tower to witness the controllers doing an amazing job working with the heavy air traffic at Centennial Airport. Going out on the tower balcony was pretty cool too!
Thanks much to the students for visiting with us this summer! Your hard work during the week has set you on the precipice of a wonderful career if you choose to pursue aviation in the future!
It was truly our pleasure to meet and work with all of you!

Women In Aviation - Pioneers
Amelia Earhart
Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, as a passenger. She gained fame from this, but it was by no means her most significant contribution to aviation. She became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic solo in 1932. In 1935, she became the first person to fly solo across the Pacific from Honolulu to Oakland. Two years later Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan began their around-the-world flight from Miami eastward. After completing 22,000 miles of their journey, they were last seen on takeoff from Lae, New Guinea, on July 2, 1937. She was truly an inspiration to women. Her attitude toward success and failure was summed up in the following quote, "Women must try to do things as men have tried. When they fail, their failure must be but a challenge to others."
Bessie Coleman
Bessie Coleman was the first African American (either gender) to earn a pilot's license, but she had to travel to France to do so, because none of the American schools would train blacks. She earned her pilot's license in France in 1921, returned to America and took up stunt flying to earn money.
These daring women were true heroes and forever changed the aviation landscape for women and men alike!

Women In Aviation - Modern Aviators
Patty Wagstaff
Patty Wagstaff became the first woman ever to win the US National Aerobatic Championships; indeed she would go on to win the Nationals three times, three years in a row.
In addition to these U.S. Championships, Patty has six times earned a position on the US Aerobatic Team at the World Aerobatic Championships, and six times won the Betty Skelton “First Lady of Aerobatics” Award.
Check out this breathtaking video of her aerobatic performance at
the 2018 AirVenture Oshkosh.
