Honors Alumni Highlight ✨
From a high school graduating class of 74 students to navigating a campus of more than 60,000 students, CU Denver once felt overwhelming for Ana Fuentes Romero. Through the University Honors & Leadership (UHL) program, Ana found community, connection, and some of her favorite college memories.
Today, Ana works at Amwins Insurance Brokerage on a professional lines broking team, helping place coverage for professionals with specialized liability risks, including medical malpractice.
“UHL gave me a place to call home on campus, and I met my best friend through this program.” 💛🐾
We love following our Honors alumni on their post-graduate journeys! 🙌

🎓 Graduate Spotlight: Jess Shelton
From Colorado Springs, CO, Jess is graduating with a BA in Psychology & Communications.
After graduation, he plans to attend graduate school at either the University of Michigan or George Mason University to pursue a Master’s Degree in Sports Management 🎥🏀
His advice to new Honors students:
“Take advantage of it! There’s so many opportunities to study topics that you’re interested in further through Honors courses or Honors projects, and it’s absolutely worth taking advantage of it in the end.”
Jess works as a sports creative at CU Denver, where he’s been able to grow his passion for photography and digital media. He hopes to build a career in the sports industry as a photographer or digital media manager for a professional team or NCAA athletics program 📸
One of his favorite Honors experiences has been using Honors Contracts to deepen his skills in photography and digital media throughout his undergraduate career. He says he’ll miss the freedom and opportunities to explore topics he’s passionate about through personalized projects.
Congratulations, Jess! We can’t wait to see where your creativity takes you next ✨

🎓 Graduate Spotlight: Rosalind Beattie
From Denver, CO, Rosalind is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Law Studies.
After graduation, she plans to continue working while applying to law school this fall ⚖️
Her advice to new Honors students:
“Take advantage of every opportunity, even if you think it might not pan out. The only way to know something won’t work is if you try it out.”
Rosalind has balanced a full-time role at a nonprofit throughout her college career while exploring her interests in technology and ethics. One of her proudest accomplishments is a research paper on AI and surveillance capitalism that was accepted into A Priori, an undergraduate journal at Brown University! 👏
She says she will miss the creativity and challenge that the Honors Scholars Program fosters and the opportunity to push herself in a structured environment.
Congratulations, Rosalind! We can’t wait to see what you do next ✨
Stay tuned for more Spring 2026 graduate spotlights in the next few weeks.
