Time to correct a news article!

Denver's KDVR has just run a story about Denver's Cheesman Park under the headline "Human bones found at Denver park could ‘just be stories,’ official says" (source: https://kdvr.com/news/local/human-bones-found-at-denver-park-could-just-be-stories-official-says/)

Contrary to what the headline says, here's one of the skeletons from the park (photographed at the Medical Examiner's Office during a joint study with Metro State University's Human Identification Lab and documented by the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society).

Now, the article does go on to admit they've found skeletons in the past, contrary to what the headline suggests. But even that contains some inaccuracies. For instance, it suggests the undertaker responsible for the project (whom they don't name, but it was Edward P. McGovern) was fired for cutting corners and mishandling the removal of the bodies. This is untrue. He was doing exactly what the city asked him to do until a local newspaper ran a story critical of the project and the bad press embarrassed the City into abandoning the project and building the park over whatever graves remained.

The claim it's unlikely any skeletons could have surfaced since the 2010 removal of several skeletons is also questionable. Much of the soil in and around Cheesman Park contains a substance called bentonite, which causes a lot of what's buried there to move around in unpredictable ways whenever it gets wet.

We don't know of any bones popping up in recent years, but the thing of it is: the authorities like to keep such things quiet. For one thing, one assumes they just don't want people freaking out about it. But for another thing, before it was Cheesman Park, it was the Mount Prospect cemetery. But before that, it was Arapahoe burial ground. And if one of THEIR bodies pops up, then there's a whole other kind of political controversy.

The full history can be found in Case Files of the Rocky Mountain Paranormal Research Society Volume 1 (available here: https://polymathpress.com/products/case-files-of-the-rocky-mountain-paranormal-research-society-volume-1-by-robert-lewis-bryan-bonner)
