βWe are experiencing water scarcity and aridification β the drying of the landscape from extended drought β combined with increasing populations and competition for water. Despite that, we have the capacity to solve these issues. We have technology, the political will, and education. We need to bring about change in perspectives and do the work that needs to be done to sustainably manage our water in the West, by first recognizing the different values, needs, and interests.β
In the latest edition of STATE Magazine, Karen Schlatter, director of CSUβs Colorado Water Center, answers questions about a precious resource in Colorado, underscoring its complexity and the importance of its management, especially in a time of drought.

βAs we honor the stateβs 150th birthday and look to the future, American public higher education will thrive because it is aligned with that small, simple, almost innocent thing called hope.β
In the Spring 2026 edition of STATE Magazine, CSU System Chancellor Dr. Tony Frank writes about how Land-grant universities encourage students to see a new future for themselves and their families. You can read it here π col.st/fjbjp

Earlier this month, CSU celebrated the inaugural cohort of RAM Scholars at the RAM Scholars Champion Celebration.
Standing for "Reaching Adult Milestones," RAM Scholars began three years ago as an inclusive higher education program for adults with intellectual disabilities and related neurogenetic conditions, such as Down syndrome, autism, and other conditions. Students work alongside their mentors β fellow CSU students β through a variety of courses in agriculture and STEM fields.
"One of our catch phrases is 'We can do hard things.' Everyone steps up to the plate and takes away really great learning outcomes. We can all learn something from whatever our starting point is, and that's really powerful. We can all be CSU. We can all be part of this community." - Program Coordinator Kaylyn Van Deusen
Congratulations to this amazing cohort of students π

When Colorado became a state 150 years ago, the Colorado Agricultural College was already driving agricultural innovations to improve the economy and quality of life. With this focus, the college shaped food production, water management, and other activities in the fledgling state.
In the Spring 2026 edition of STATE magazine, Colorado State University historians Linda Meyer and Gordon Hazard discuss how the Colorado Agricultural College influenced the early days of the Centennial State.

βThis year, my daughter Maddie is graduating from CSU, which means I am currently working on how to deliver commencement remarks without completely losing my composure.
And as Iβve been thinking about what this milestone means for her, Iβve also found myself reflecting more deeply on what it has meant for me β because I once stood where she is now, graduating from this same university, full of excitement and just enough uncertainty to make the future feel wide open.β
In the lead up to this weekends commencement celebrations across campus, President Amy Parsons wrote about the value of a degree β touching on something a little less tangible than the traditional returns like career readiness, long-term earnings or economic mobility: lifelong community.
