What flatland is has never changed. It's about making the best use of a spot and conquering. It's simplicity, function
ality, spice, flavor and your own style. It's tossing out ideas that don't work, and ignoring trends. Riding what works for you; riding the bike and not letting the bike ride you. If you have ridden for a while you know you can't expect a new gimmick to make you a better rider. It's about individuality, work, spending time riding and ultimately, progression. This is where creativity, innovation, modification and a different perspective meet perseverance and freedom. If you haven't spent that day working on the same trick over and over, giving your personal best and refusing to give up, then you don't know flatland. We live for that feeling of our heart pounding in our chest that first time we pull a trick or that feeling of hitting our tricks in a contest or show and being satisfied with how we did. We know that in a contest you are truly riding against yourself and not your friends. Its about cheering on your friends when they pull something awesome or riding by yourself in a parking lot and blowing your own mind. It's even ok to have a bike that isn't flat black. It's not trying to fit in, but instead standing out. It's friends and BMX family. Ultimately and MOST importantly, it's about having fun rolling around in circles on 20 inch wheels. And all these things that flatland is, this is what we are about at Reklamation Bikes. We are "reclaiming" our sport from all that flatland is not. Reclaiming it from all the junk that has distorted, mutated, been bolted on to, removed from, and added to our sport and instead focusing on what it is. Reklamation bikes is owned and operated by Robert Reilly and Jake Umberger. Both have been riding BMX for over 20 years. They started riding in the middle of the explosion of freestyle and watched the near collapse in the early 90s. They have both watched the trends come and go and have held true to their roots. The styles, the bikes and the fashion have changed much, but their core principles have never changed; have fun on two wheels. Neither of them ever became Pro, but neither of them ever lost that desire to progress and impress themselves in what they can accomplish. They still roll, progress and have a great time every week and there is no end in sight. They want nothing more than to see others find that same joy in flatland and BMX as a whole. In late 2012, having worked hard to help bring back the sense of fun, family and community to our sport in their own scene, Jake and Robert decided to apply what they remembered, loved and learned from their years of riding flatland to products. Thus was born Reklamation Bikes. In every one of our products you will see these same qualities: simplicity, functionality, strength, quality, craftsmanship, made in the USA and above all, fun.
