In Greek mythology, Echo was an Oread, a mountain nymph known for her beauty, charm, and love of conversation. Unlike many figures in Greek myths who wielded power through strength or magic, Echo’s gift was her voice.

According to the most famous version of the myth, Echo often distracted the goddess Hera with long conversations while Zeus secretly met with other nymphs. When Hera discovered the deception, her anger fell upon Echo.

As punishment, Hera cursed her so that she could no longer speak her own thoughts. From that moment on, Echo could only repeat the last words spoken by someone else.

One day, Echo saw the handsome hunter Narcissus and fell deeply in love. Unable to express her feelings, she followed him through the forests and mountains, hoping he might notice her.

When Narcissus finally heard someone nearby and called out, “Who’s there?”, Echo could only answer:

“There.”

She longed to tell him how she felt, but the curse made it impossible. When she eventually revealed herself, Narcissus rejected her and walked away.

Heartbroken, Echo withdrew into the wilderness. She wandered among caves, cliffs, and lonely valleys, growing weaker with grief. In time, her physical form faded away completely.

Only her voice remained.

The ancient Greeks believed this myth explained a familiar natural phenomenon: the echo. Whenever a voice bounced back from mountainsides, cliffs, or cavern walls, they imagined it was Echo herself, forever repeating the words of others.

Today, Echo remains one of the most tragic figures in Greek mythology. Her story is not only an explanation for a natural wonder but also a tale about unspoken love, loneliness, and the pain of not being heard.

​1️⃣ He WAS married, likely to Mary Magdalene, and the early Church aggressively covered it up to promote a narrative of celibacy.

2️⃣ Jesus was gay. In a world where heteronormative marriage was an absolute societal requirement, his refusal or inability to conform speaks volumes.

Whether he was a married man whose wife was erased, or a q***r icon refusing to conform to the heteronormative pressures of his time, Jesus’s unconventional life challenged the status quo.
