Scenes from Porter's Week of the Young Child!
It was such a grand week for the kids,families and all of Porter's staff. Thanks to all who helped make it such a success!

We've had such a joyful and engaging week in our program celebrating the Week of the Young Child! We kicked off the week with a very special guest who brought music, rhythm, and excitement to our center. Tasty Tuesday our little learners explored new flavors, practice independence and engage their senses through hands on food experiences. From mixing to tasting, it was all about building healthy habits and trying something new!
Throughout the week we've been celebrating learning through play, connecting and meaningful experiences that support growth in all developmental areas. A big thank you to our incredible teachers, our special guests, and our families for making this week so memorable.

Our toddler classroom explored a sensory experience with ice and frozen flowers today! Children used their senses to investigate temperature, texture and change as the ice began to melt.

Our Preschool and Pre-K classroom had an amazing experience welcoming a local veterinarian and their service dog into our program.

The children were engaged from start to finish as they learned about:

1. How veterinarians care for animals
2. The important work service dogs do to help people.
3. Ways we can show kindness and respect to animals.

We are so grateful for this meaningful community partnership and the time they took to share their knowledge with our students.

In our toddler classroom, Children learn by doing. Through active play experience such as riding scooters and bikes. The children are strengthening their gross motor skills, practicing coordination and building self-confidence.

In the PCC Infant program they are practicing confidence and gross moss skills with some "slo-mo" sliding.

This week at PCC we are learning how to bring literacy to life! Here are the Toddler II children feeding the gorilla from the book Good night, Gorilla.

Creative play and Science exploration

Using a glove filled with water, the children practiced squeezing, strengthening their hand muscles, and working together to figure out how milk gets from the cow to the bucket.

Today our toddler 2 class made ice cream. This hands-on experience was full of sensory exploration, pouring, mixing and lots of excitement. Activities like this help build coordination early math concept (measuring or scooping) and language development as we talked about textures and temperatures.

Today in Preschool the children explored name recognition and letter matching using manipulatives. Activities like this build early literacy skills.
