My top tips for anyone looking to start, run and grow a law firm – or any business – in 2023:

1. The more quickly you can automate mundane tasks, the easier it will be.

I still know some lawyers who use spreadsheets to create invoices - yikes! There are so many great tools available today to help us be efficient.

2. Get a team together as soon as you can.

They will make your life easier – and maybe more importantly, you have the power to change their lives, too.

3. Build your personal brand.

I’m a proud attorney, but I’m also an entrepreneur – and outside of work, I’m an avid skier, hiker, and I love to travel. I am so much more than my firm, and you are more than your business. Let it show!

Fun fact: I love translating "legalese" to plain English.

Some lawyers prefer the highfalutin terms you sometimes see in formal legal documents. . . I prefer easy-to-understand contracts.

The best time to file for a trademark is before you even start using it. Otherwise, someone else might “get in front of you in line” at the USPTO and file for the same or a very similar trademark.

Given the huge number of copycat items flourishing on Amazon, this is something every Amazon seller should know.
