Fun Fact: ASL has its own rich tradition of poetry and storytelling—where movement becomes rhythm, facial expressions become emotion, and hands paint stories in the air. 🤟✨

ASL poetry uses visual, three-dimensional imagery, rhythm, movement, and handshapes to create powerful works of literature. Pioneering Deaf artists like Clayton Valli, Ella Mae Lentz, and Patrick Graybill helped shape ASL poetry into a celebrated art form rooted in Deaf culture.

Unlike translated English poems, ASL poetry is created through the natural structure and beauty of ASL itself. ✨

Tonight we celebrate more than degrees—we celebrate perseverance, growth, passion, and the future of our field.

Our graduate students have balanced coursework, research, long nights, full-time jobs, families, and countless challenges to reach this moment. Through it all, they have shown dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the students and communities they serve.

Watching each of them grow into thoughtful professionals and advocates has been such an honor. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and even more excited for the impact they will make moving forward.

Congratulations to our graduates on your hooding ceremony! Your hard work brought you here, and this is only the beginning. đź’™
