✨ UNT Alumni Spotlight featuring Peyton Russell ('18) ✨

➡️ Peyton Russell has been working at 105.3 The Fan since 2019 and has been a part of the morning show “Shan and RJ” since 2022. He is a proud UNT alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in media arts and hopes to continue to spread his knowledge and skills in sports broadcasting to the next generation. He is married to his wife, Mackenzie.

❓ How has your experience at UNT shaped your personal or professional goals?
🟢 I met so many people in the sports broadcasting program at UNT that I was able to get an internship with the radio station 105.3 The Fan. This was a great start to a full-time career with The Fan. The experience I had at UNT led me in the right direction and I am so thankful for that opportunity.

❓If you could give your freshman year self one piece of advice, what would it be?
🟢 I would have definitely told him to pursue a minor in marketing or another similar degree. It would’ve been helpful to have a more versatile degree which could possibly lead to other jobs.

❓What’s something you learned outside the classroom that really impacted you?
🟢 I learned this from someone a couple years older than me at UNT — they said to always make myself available when at a job in my career path. Always be willing to jump in when someone else can’t and one day, the right person could notice you and it could lead to bigger and better things. I did this exact thing when I started out at The Fan when I was only part time. Always being available stood out to the boss and this most likely led to me being hired full time a couple years later after starting out there.
