Congratulations to Courtney Coper, a Chemistry graduate student working with Dr. Wang, has recently one a prestigious ACS Bridge Travel and Professional Development Award. According to the website (https://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/funding/awards/acs-bridge-travel-professional-development-award.html), the “goal of this award is to advance the career and professional development of graduate students” and “is open to students who are pursuing a graduate degree in the chemical sciences and are from groups traditionally underrepresented in the Chemical Sciences.” Courtney plans to use the travel funds to cover travel costs to attend the full ACS Fall 2022 National Meeting and several Fall 2022 national meeting workshops.

Congratulations to Dr. Emmett Leddin, a Spring 2022 Chemistry Ph.D. graduate who completed dissertation research with Professors Andrés Cisneros (Chemistry) and Oliviero Andreussi (Physics), for receiving the 2022 Toulouse Dissertation Award in the Physical Sciences. According to the Toulouse Graduate School, the Toulouse Dissertation Award is an annual award that "recognizes individuals who have completed dissertations that represent original work and make an unusually significant contribution to a discipline" and is given to UP TO 4 individuals.

Congratulations to Conager Robb, a recent UNT Chemistry graduate, for receiving the Outstanding Senior in Chemistry Student Award from the American Chemical Society Dallas-Fort Worth Section. According to the ACS-DFW website, students must be a chemistry or biochemistry major of at least junior standing and have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible for this award, as well as showing outstanding promise for future educational and career accomplishments.

LVC is proud to announce the Educator of the Year: Dr. Mukunda Ghimire, assistant professor of chemistry.
Mukunda has taught at The Valley since 2018. He has led extensive student-faculty research, including through an Arnold Experiential Grant, and traveled to conferences in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Orlando, and beyond to support his students. Mukunda's student-faculty research spans several areas, including detecting and treating cancer cells. Congratulations!

Congrats to the ADDIE MAE CURBO LLOYD AWARD winners!
This award is given to the outstanding freshman chemistry MAJOR based on performance on an Outstanding Freshman Exam which was administered last week. Students are individually selected by their instructors to participate in the exam.

Congratulations to Ashten Yarberry!
On May 16, 2022, Ashten will be inducted as a lawyer for the State of Texas. Ms. Yarberry earned her BS in Chemistry and in Criminal Justice from UNT in Spring 2018. She also received her Criminalistics Certificate in Spring 2018 and Forensic Science Certificate in Summer 2018.
After completing her degrees at UNT, Ms. Yarberry attended Penn State Law and earned her Juris Doctorate in Spring 2021. Ms. Yarberry is a legacy student of the department since her mother, Dr. Faith Yarberry, earned her Ph.D. from the UNT Chemistry Department in Fall 2002.

Congratulations to Dr. Guido Verbeck and his research group! The FDA recently granted Emergency Use Authorization to a COVID-19 breathalizer created by Dr. Verbeck’s research lab, in collaboration with InspectIR Systems, located in Frisco, TX.
