Want to learn flute? This Jupiter Carnegie is for sale at EZ Pawn on University. I played it and it's a fairly good flute for a beginner to learn on and take pretty far. It plays well enough that I would use it as a backup flute if I didn't already have a backup flute. Already got a flute? Awesome! Either way, send me a message and let's schedule your first lesson!
Music Families, we're actively looking for a new place for our Spring Recital as the current place is no longer giving music studios a discount and the cost to you would be so much you probably wouldn't sign up. We're talking with different places but contact Tonya if you have the hookup somewhere.

This year during Black History Month, I'd like to focus on the incredible musicians that I admire, starting with Marian Anderson. In 1955, she was the first African American opera singer for the Metropolitan Opera (as a contralto!) but before long that, in 1929, she went to Europe to continue her studies in classical vocal literature because....well, America at the time was just not as welcoming to her. Several black performers that we admire today did the same, (like Josephine Baker) going to Europe where they were allowed to perform in more places and making it big before returning to the states as a star. Marian Baker's 1939 performance at the Lincoln Memorial was championed by Eleanor Roosevelt, attended by 75,000 people, and was turned into a documentary. She was also an ambassador for the UN Human Rights Watch and sang at the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Take some time today to listen to this American talent and keep her memory alive.
