The Never Forget Project is currently on display outside of Brackenridge Hall. ⁣

Despite it being the 20th anniversary of 9-11, it feels like yesterday to many of the veterans on campus at TWU. It was the event, and the effects of that day that caused many of us to join the military and serve our country. As always, we would like to honor those that lost their lives in the attacks on 9-11. We also believe that it is also important to remember and honor those that lost their lives because of the attacks on 9-11, especially this year due to the events that transpired this past week⁣

Tuesday, September 7 at 0800, we will be putting up flags as a part of our yearly Never Forget Project in order to honor those that lost their lives on 9-11. Additionally, this year we will be placing 13 extra flags in order to honor the lives lost this past week in Afghanistan. ⁣
We would like to invite all students, staff, alumni, and family to participate in honoring those that lost their lives. ⁣

Women Veterans Day: ⁣⁣
Today, June 12, marks the date of the Women’s Armed Service Integration Act (1948). This act legally permitted women to legally serve within all branches of the military, though women had been serving long before.

Cheers to our sisters that are brave, make a difference, and set an example every day. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You are strong. You are unstoppable. You are amazing. You are loved. ⁣⁣

Thank you for all that you have given to our country. ⁣

Are you wanting to help your fellow veterans this week?

The National level of the SVA is participating in the National Day of Giving this year, on January 18, 2021. They have asked us, and our families if they’d like, to write letters to our fellow brothers and sisters who have served that are currently in assisted care facilities. Over the past year, many of us have felt isolated due to COVID-19. You can only imagine how those who are alone in care facilities feel.

The SVA is asking that we write letters to nearby VA Assisted care facilities to help decrease the veteran’s feelings of isolation. The SVA gave some recommendations for the letters if you are interested:
• Take a few minutes, sit down, and write a letter to an elder. Tell them about yourself, your school, your service.
• Letters should be legible (large print) and handwritten.
• Avoid politics and religion, please. Your letter should resonate with anyone.
• Don’t focus on world events—make this message personal from you to the recipient.
• Be as creative as possible! Include photos, a crossword, whatever you’d like! Have your child include a drawing or joke.
• Send as many cards as you’d like!
• Address the envelope as “The Veterans of” whatever facility you choose

We recommend getting your letters in the mail by Friday the 15th, so they make it in time. Make sure your envelopes are addressed and stamped and send them on their way! But do not forget to share photos and tag , , and .
