There is a principle in music that some phrases can be seen as statements and responses, as questions and answers, as a form of conversation, which is heard in the most beautiful way, in this arrangement of Dvoraks Slavonic Dance No.2 for Violin, Cello and Orchestra.
It really makes you think what experiences, what profound emotions are shared here and makes it so easy to see the dialogue that‘s taking place which makes it an absolutey amazing edition to one of my favourite Dvorak melodies. The german Poet Heinrich Heine said it best when he proclaimed: “Where words leave off, music begins.” Played in this clip by @itzhakperlmanofficial, @yoyoma and the @bsorchestra under Seiji Ozawa #classical #music #violín #cello #orchestra #conversation #dialogue This clip is being used for educational purposes 01/03/2026

“There is principle in some music that…”, “it really makes you think what experiences…what profound emotions are shared here and makes it so easy to see the dialogue that’s taking place which makes it an absolutely ah-mazing addition to one of favorite melodies. …”. And, I’d like to take some credit for the ending of the caption, …”the German poet Heinrich Heine said it best when he proclaimed,”where words leave off, music begins.” I believe that that it can be believed as a miracle.”

So about this clip, I won’t pretend that I didn’t, I knew, and I told you what piece it is. It is in the caption. But the words of wisdom is, as you would have learned from any higher educational establishment, don’t EVER believe in what you read. The beginning of learning a piece is far different than the beginning of reading a book. Music can not be thought of in that way. You’d lose your spine getting into it and it makes you just as illegal as a pianist as the number of notes that Cortot missed in his own recordings. The words of wisdom is, hear it and know what you want. Know what you want, KNOW IT, with an immaculate instinct that hopefully you are given. If you don’t, don’t start. If you do, get into the arena with your joy stick and show your hand with the conviction that is as iron clad as the rest of them.

Who wins at the end? At least you’d know that you will never lose.

From many moons ago. Nevertheless, “Season’s Greetings!

11/16/2025

I have not done anything to this page for a while aas the home studio continued to plagued by plumbing issues.

I have not actively recruited any students, nor do I check this page on a daily basis, EXCEPT for the daily notifications from my personal page that this studio is thriving incredibly with more and more visibilities each day. At the moment, I have to and had said no to any requests for in-home lessons. And, the reality will remain as such as the pipes in the front part of the house are to be checked again, and the flooring will come after any possible repair. I almost want to chckle with tears in my eyes when thinking about the possibility of filling another claim at my new home onwers insurance company. After about $80000 reimbursement poured in for the multiple repairs from the past flood one and half years ago, the previous insurance compamy and I parted ways.

Meanwhile, it’s just so sweet that people remain nice, decent and curious.

Look forward to post a new picture once the home studio is finally renovated, with a new floor, a new vibe, and hey, possibly a new fate!

The Piano Studio of Xiaobo Chen is not currently functioning at its full capacity due to health reasons of the owner. However, the two staff members of the studio continue to work tirelessly to assist me in making strategic decisions and manage the online profile of the studio everyday.

Therefore, introducing you the staff members of the Piano Studio of Xiaobo Chen.

Isabella Chen, General Manager

Elizabeth Chen, PR Manager

Joking aside, these two are actually certified service dogs.

Therefore, suffice it to say that these two special girls rescue me everyday during every awakening moment of theirs. And, when the need arises, one of them will, by law, accompany me and remain by myself throughout a lesson.

(The one on the left is Isabella. And, the one on the right is Elizabeth).

This is my professional page. The Piano Studio of Xiaobo Chen is not functioning on a full capacity due to health reasons. And, it has not been my intention to make this page a commercial one, as an advertisement for the purpose of recruiting students.

Before having an illustrious teaching career 😜, yours truly was a… pianist. Thinking about this line makes me want to laugh until I cry, as if conversing between one artistically-inclinded individual to another, as the vast of entities from the COM of UNT. Should one asks the other, “what are you, dear?” Well, I have to think rather hard and reply with a firm hand gesture, not as a “ Collaborative Artist” as such grace does not exist in me, but as a…pianist, as a ”I am a PIANIST with no last name.

Rather, all these meanderings, occurrences and interludes from this page are no more than the short sometimes and nearly unfinished-sounding Chopin preludes, quick to change, perfect for someone who might not have an impressive stretch of attention span. 😜

Speaking of the Chopin preludes, I am curious to know, if someone has indeed played all of them and has at least attempted to perform the whole set in the setting of a concert stage a few times, if that person (even) has a preference between the first 12 and the last? Is this a childish question to ask? I had made painful attempts to thread the whole set, as if a set of the five Harry Potter books into one long novel with little avail. I ended up wishing that I could walk away with just the first half or if I could make an artistic choice about the program, which preludes in the second half would I leave off on a concert stage, stunningly and fearlessly…? If I could walk away with just one half of the book, …the first half, always the first half. I might never be a well-adjusted and mature adult to come off from the other end of the book during this lifetime. What about you?

Anyhoo, what I mean to tell you is that, I do *manage* both of my personal and professional pages on a daily basis. I’d see notifications from both pages, one is much more significant than the other. From this page, curiously enough, what I have seen steadily is a notification which tells me how many new views I would have, sometimes on a daily basis. Occasionally, I’d get something from the Facebook statistics telling me that the “views of The Piano Studio of Xiaobo Chen has a sharp increase during the past week.”

As it was not the harvest seed I planted, it certainly isn’t my fruit to pick. I’d look at each and similar notification, wonder about the sources they come from. Sometimes I am incredulous, but sometimes, I am terrified… I mean I am terrifyingly flattered. It is, after all, a compliment, isn’t it?

The famed ballet dancer Suzan Ferrell once said,”when you are in your 20’s, you never worry about the future. I’d laugh and say ,’Well, I can just open a restaurant when I retire.’” So I wonder, does each and every business owner have a back-up plan, in a sense that should Plan A fail, there will be a solid Plan B burning on the back burner? Maybe my pot of the Chop Suey that has been burning all this time and time is as old as the fairy tale itself, this might be… quite literally, the only “Egg Fried Rice—-Makeaway”, if you get my gist? If so, would you say that that is quite a threat?

I’d say no. Its Beresh*t.

And this, is just on a slow day.

Too Close for Comfort 05/18/2025

Noona, well, is Noona.

Too Close for Comfort Too Close for Comfort (Jerry Bock, George David Weiss, and Larry Holofcener) Jazz Song Piano and Vocal Arranged and Performed by Sangah Noona

J.S. Bach - The Partita for keyboard No. 6 in E minor, Courante BWV830 05/18/2025

I don’t know anything about Noona personally except that she is a South Korean jazz pianist who resides in the States. Her shorts often show up on my YouTube feed, and that I really enjoy her music whenever I see and hear her.

I graduated from a school which its Jazz program is well-known, nationally. Meantime, the only keyboardist to my knowledge that can cross over ever so sublimely is the French pianist Jeans Eves Thibaudet. His album “Conversations with Bill Evans” makes one do an auditory double. You won’t be able to tell the difference from one another, to say the least.

I am not able to *cross over * on the keyboard. I don’t have anything in me to do so. Even with a piece of music in front of me, I can only give you a vanilla version of what it originally ought to have been. However, I appreciate the artistry when seeing and listening to others’ ability to cross over. The more I see and listen to Noona, the more I enjoy and respect her virtuosity and marvelousness. And conversely, the more I tune in ti her, the more she surprises me by elevating the brilliance of her performances. I’d listen to her songs in the car and wishing, actively imagining myself that I was her, that her bright, shining, dazzling music came out of my own hands and throat.

I heard that many jazz pianists started out classical, learning and playing Mozart and Hyden just like the rest of us. I sometimes wondered about Noona, just how substantial of a pianist she really is. And, my jaw literally dropped when she posted a new short about ten days ago on youtibr of her playing an excerpt from the Bach Partita No. 6. Exactly as what one reviewer writes, “Bach beyond jazz. Amazing tone and touch” before the lovely lady puts her work uniform back on in the next post.

Many young students enjoy jazz and have an earnest desire to learn it. I certainly am not a jazz instructor. But, as many of the finest jazz pianists started out, I can teach them about classical music, you know, *playing scales and arpeggios with curved fingers and all*. Ane, it never hurts to have a solid base even if it takes time, some time.

Imagine if you ask a student, “what do you want to do on the keyboard” or *who do you want to be on a piano * at the first lesson? Well, my answer will be that “I want to be like Noona when I grow up.” And, in my own mind while in the shower and the car, “I already am having what she is having”.

Now, go practice.

Noona Plays Bach.

Deviating from all the shop talk, yet this one is still closely related to one’s(mine) livelihood, or the lack of, as part of mine was shattered rather viscerally, immorally, illegally and unethically three years ago.

I intent to share the content of this video with any fellow piano teachers who might be working for a studio owned by someone else, and the work environment towards its employees might or might not be compassionate, sensible, perceptive, truthful, and most of all, protective towards its charges.

Truth, a word which the weight it carries often escapes one’s mind. It’s unfortunate if one hears lies from the top tier; or to be present when that said top tier intentionally pits one employee against another behind the latter’s back; or worst of all, one can’t be sure if the top tier has her faculty intact enough to recognize the truth or lies tumbled out of her own mouth to her charges, the kind if not changed daily and which can’t be quoted with coherence, logic, dignity or any class. Retrieving from my one memory bank, the owner once stood in the waiting area of her own establishment, facing an audience of several employees and said breezily if not joyfully that “look here, I am teaching Xiaobo how to lie (to her clients).” I later told the lie to the client word for word before he was gotten rid of by the establishment.

Alas, I heard the slew of lies, again, MANY jagged, incoherent, dazed, if not legal or abusive lies from the same source about oneself again, and god forbid if this top tier had made a point to teach others, in this case, her employees to lie about one of their own, the same lies for a same story, in the effort to oust someone, this time, and once again, one of their own.

About the content in the clip of my conversation with my physician about the CT Scan and MRI results taken a few months after my unexpected retirement, “we found what we had found.” Tumors. We found tumors in one of my organs, to which the symptoms still persist despite of a surgery performed six months after my *retirement*.
