Join us for the opening reception of 1967: When Soccer Came to Texas on Friday, June 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., presented by UNT Special Collections.⚽️
The Dallas Tornado Soccer Club was the first professional soccer team in Texas. It was founded by two wealthy sports fanatics in 1967, coached by a Yugoslavian immigrant, and employed only one American player. Team members were recruited and trained at the beginning of a whirlwind tour, which took them through 20 different countries over seven months, and consisted of 45 matches against some of the best and worst soccer teams in the world.
This exhibit will feature original artifacts, photos, and ephemera from the archive of The Dallas Tornado’s first coach, Bob Kap, including team pennants from soccer clubs around the world. This exhibition will run from June 5 - 27.🏟️
The opening reception takes place during the Downtown Denton Foundation’s First Friday! The first friday of every month promotes a range of art and cultural events happening throughout Downtown Denton.

Announcing our latest gallery exhibition, Frozen in a Moment, presented by Creative Vision Collective, as part of SpeedBump lil d 2026!
Frozen in a Moment will showcase work from nearly two dozen local artists that embody the spirit of collaborative creativity and community building. The exhibition highlights the interconnectedness of artists through diverse techniques and personal experiences.
Creative Vision Collective’s approach of sharing skills, resources, and providing regular critique sessions reflects a commitment to artistic growth and mutual support. By highlighting the connections between artists who meet, critique, and support each other, viewers will see into the collaborative art scene of Denton.
Join us on Saturday, May 23 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. for SpeedBump lil d and a chance to interact with the artists.
SpeedBump lil d is a free, one day tour of Denton visual artists. Inspired by Visual Arts Speed Bump Oak Cliff, Anna Galluzzi and Delaney Smith-Vaughn started the event in 2023 in response to the need for community and exposure for Denton artists. Canvases and panels are moving fast for the fourth installment of square-d, a UNT CoLab Community Art Exhibition benefiting the UNT Food Pantry presented by Kroger!
All you have to do to enter is stop in, purchase an 8 x 8 canvas or panel for $6, and return your completed artwork to us by June 27. Any medium is welcome as long as the work is original and created with intention. Add elements, deconstruct, or transform the panel or canvas, just be sure it is incorporated in the completed submission. 🖼️
square-d will be on view from July 10 - July 31. Stay tuned for opening reception details coming soon.

There’s still time to view our current gallery exhibitions On-Going/Going-On and Pressing Matters!
On-Going/Going-On, a UNT Photography BFA Exhibition brings together a group of 16 senior photography students connected through a shared moment in time.
Pressing Matters features works from 19 students from the Intermediate Metalsmithing & Jewelry Plasticity Class at the University of North Texas, each created using a hydraulic die press.
Don’t miss the chance to view the full exhibitions before they close on Saturday, May 9.
