Sumeet Anand Pandey is a hereditary musician of the illustrious Darbhanga lineage of vocalists from Bihar in India. He performs dhrupad, an ancient style of North Indian classical music that developed in the 14th century. Originally sung at temples and later in royal courts and now in public concerts, Dhrupad is known for its calmer nature, majestic gait, and melodic, rhythmic and lyrical richness. The presentation strives to create a sense of meditative tranquility and avoids an exhibitionist approach but is not bereft of depth and virtuosity.
Sumeet is a disciple of Pandit Abhay Narayan Mallick (master disciple of Padmashri Pandit Ram Chatur Mallick). He has performed extensively in India as well as toured Berlin, Rome, Paris, Madrid, Hague, London, Prague, Budapest and other European cities for concerts and workshops. His debut album titled 'Morning Meditation-Dhrupad of Darbhanga Tradition' was released in 2020 on Naxos World (now ARC Music) worldwide.
