Davis Families, our updated Student/Parent Handbook was approved by our Board of Education last night. All parents and students are expected to review the handbook together.
Here are a few important areas and updates we want to bring to your attention:
📵 Cellphone Reminder – Page 21
While our cellphone policy has not changed, we want to reiterate it as student cellphone use continues to be a hot topic in Michigan schools. Students may not use cellphones during the school day. If a cellphone or other personal electronic device is brought to school, it must be turned off upon entering the building and stored in the student's backpack throughout the school day. If it is necessary for a student to call home for an emergency, he/she is directed to contact our office staff to call home using a school phone.
🌱 Academic Supports & MTSS – Page 22
Additional information about our Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and how we provide students with additional academic intervention and support when needed.
📱 Social Media & Digital Conduct – Page 25
New expectations addressing cyberbullying, inappropriate online content involving students or staff, fake accounts, unauthorized recording, and online behavior that impacts the school environment.
🤖 Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Page 25
New guidance regarding appropriate student use of AI tools. AI may be used for educational purposes when permitted by a teacher, but may not be used to cheat, plagiarize, bypass learning expectations, or create inappropriate or harmful content.
🌱 Behavioral Supports & MTSS – Pages 27 & 34–36
Our handbook now more clearly outlines how we support student behavior through MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, reteaching expectations, parent communication, and progressive responses to behavior.
🚨 Emergency Operations & Safety Procedures – Pages 18–19
Updated information for families regarding our safety procedures, including expectations for families during an emergency.
Our goal with these expectations is simple: maintain a safe, supportive environment where students can focus on learning, building relationships, and growing.
Thank you, Davis families, for reviewing the handbook and partnering with us for a great 2026–2027 school year!
