Every year on 1st day of school at
UCD, hundreds of upperclassmen gather at the busiest roundabout on campus to witness the greatest entertainment known to man: Watching confused freshmen attempt to navigate a roundabout.

Coincidentally, this roundabout is also the first bicycle roundabout in North America. It was built in 1973.

🚦🚲 To calculate the green light time for bicycles crossing an intersection, first you find the distance bikes need to travel across the intersection. This is measured from the stop bar to the far side of the opposite crosswalk. You then plug the distance into a table from the CAMUTCD, which gives you the minimum phase time. Ex: 60 ft -> 10.5 seconds. The minimum phase time = bike green time + yellow time + all red time.

Yellow time is usually 3-5 seconds and all red time is 1 second.

So to find the bike green time, you rearrange the equation:
Bike green time = minimum phase time - yellow time - all red time
Bike green time = 10.5 s - 3.9 s - 1 s
Bike green time = 5.6 s
