"Dr. Robyn Rodriguez, a professor of ethnic studies at the University of California, Davis, explained that ethnic studies classes differ from cultural studies classes. She said that ethnic studies heavily focuses on how political power impacted ethnic groups throughout history.
Rodriguez mentioned this year marks the 50th anniversary of San Francisco State University starting the country’s first ethnic studies department.
“(The founders called) for an education that reflects their histories and experiences, and also equips them with tools to address marginalization, exploitation, and oppression in their communities,” she said."
Speakers urge school board to require ethnic studies class More than 15 people told the Elk Grove school board on March 20 their district’s high school students should be required to take an ethnic studies course.

Many will be celebrating Cesar Chavez's birthday this Saturday, March 31st as they should. However, many of us worry that the in*******al solidarity, which included Filipino American leadership and participation, that led to the United Farm Workers' formation is often eclipsed.
You can play a role in ending that.
Attend the Filipino Educators for Ethnic Studies summit APRIL 14, 2018.

"Chinese immigrants first came to the Delta after the Civil War to work on plantations, but it was not until the 1900s that their numbers grew, as scores of Chinese family-owned grocery stores, mostly catering to their black neighbors, sprang up. By the 1970s, there were as many as 3,000 residents of Chinese descent in the Delta, many of them living in houses attached to their family’s stores. In this highly segregated society they were barred from social organizations, public facilities and white public schools. In the mid-1940s, there were separate classrooms for Chinese students in Cleveland, Miss."
