Ten years ago we came together in community to build our collective.

Since then we have created a podcast, a blog, a social justice curriculum for youth and families and we published an anthology.

Most importantly we supported each other and created space to open a conversation about carework, mothering, and the inequitable conditions that we face across multiple institutions.

So much has changed in both the academic and political landscape since we first started; we honor the work that came before and after us.

We have slowed down tremendously since 2014, but we are still here.

This year we celebrate five years of the Chicana M(other)work Anthology! Thank you to all who have read or listened to our work.

The Chicana M(other)work Collective stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people and the fight against global oppression and towards collective liberation!

We demand an immediate ceasefire and an end to genocide, war crimes, occupation, settler colonialism, dispossession, and displacement.

While we have no words to adequately describe the atrocities against Palestenian children and their families, what we can say is that right now the world needs us to express our humanity by taking action.

As mothers, we deeply feel the global mourning vibrations of the universe. We must continue to protest, boycott, call representatives, educate ourselves and others, share on social media, and take care of each other.

Surround yourself with people who help you dream. That’s how we feel when we get together. The Chicana Motherwork Collective met today after taking a pause and it felt like a homecoming. ❤️

NASPA - Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education - this should be fixed.

This is a painful reminder of the systemic abuse that parenting students must navigate as they seek to build their careers in academia. Attending conferences such as NASPA provide important opportunities to share/grow knowledge and cultivate connections with fellow professionals. This picture shows how students who bring their children are openly targeted and exploited in ways that only benefit the organization. How can NASPA claim to support student-centered practice in higher education when so many parenting students will undoubtedly be forced out of attendance because of this practice?

As Mothers of Color navigating academic spaces, we condemn this act of gatekeeping and exclusion and are sickened by the violence at the core of these practices. We urge NASPA and other organizations that exercise despotic power over student-parents and their futures to take a long, deep look at who they are meant to truly serve. We also urge student-parents to explore conferences/organizations that humanize the experience–that provide accommodations designed to garner inclusive participation. Not capitalize on financial gain.
