Dartmouth residents may start seeing some green among the snow. To combat food insecurity in the area amid the pandemic, mutual aid group Dartmouth United Outreach is selling lawn signs containing a green heart with a simple message for these times...

Westport, MA

Driving, biking, or walking in the SouthCoast area during the 2020 holidays it was hard not to notice the lawn signs with bright red hearts painted on them in the WESTPORT area. These are simple solid red hearts with no words. As the FUN 107 (radio station) website explains, “This fundraiser is sponsored by the Westport Grange to help out the local Westport Food Pantry, as well as other Grange programs. The Westport Food Pantry is located at Westport Grange 181 located at 931 Main Road, Westport. This was a holiday event and sign sales ended December 23, but I’m sure an additional post-holiday donation to the Food Pantry would be most welcome! Here’re some pictures of the signs.

STRESS? MEDITATION? PANDEMIC?

In March 2020, at the beginning of covid-19 pandemic that would soon turn far more stressful than most would have predicted, GoodHouseKeeping Magazine ran article describing 11 readily available MEDITATION APPS. But I have some favorites from the list to call your attention to. I’m a fan of DAN HARRIS, #2 on the list is his “10% Happier” APP. And I’ve been impressed with #6, “HEADSPACE”, in the past. It would be great to HEAR your OPINIONS of these APPS. So have-a-look and comment below.

July 7, 2020 - ALEXEY V. SERGEEV spent the years 2003-2004 living in the SouthCoast when he was a (visiting) POSTDOCTURAL RESEARCHER at UMass Dartmouth. Born and raised in Russia, Alexey studied physics and mathematics there before coming to the U.S.A. He has a special interest in the problems of quantum mechanics. Since he completed his postdoctoral work at UMass Dartmouth, he has been in the Department of Chemistry at Tulane University in New Orleans.
While living in the SouthCoast, Alexey enjoyed taking photographs of the region. New to the SouthCoast, he had a special eye for the beauty and uniqueness to which many natives have become blind.
