The eye of a California hurricane

We’ll it happened. The rain managed to pass, for the most part, by race time, so the only liquids that ended up soaking me were sweat and the blood from my side charging (not pictured 😂).

The race passed in roughly the way I anticipated. I tried to pace my run to equal or better my time from last year. By mike 10 it was clear that I wasn’t going to keep a 7:20 pace, and by mile 20 I was Struggling. Capital S. The last few miles I was happy to survive, and I ended up with a final time of just over 3:20. Eight minutes off my PR, but in some ways an enormous success considering how bad my last bit of training felt.

Thanks for the support! 🙏 Now I have to resist the urge to jump right back into it to try and get my form back, and maybe focus on rest instead. We’ll see if that takes. Thanks again, - see you next year!

Alright, here we go again. Last year I PR’ed at the CIM, and the chance to run a similarly competitive time in the 40-49 age bracket and hit a Boston Qualifying time was too much to resist.

It’s going to be a tough run. My training cycle didn’t feel great, and I struggled on a few of the late runs. I have many possible explanations, but no smoking gun. Knee hurts…just some runner’s knee, but not the most pleasant of ailments. Didn’t quite get my weight down to where I wanted, so I’m running a little heavy this year.

To top it all off, the weather is nasty out there. Race time conditions will be wet, in the mid- to high-40s. Not much wind to speak of, but it’s a west-coast soaker of a storm for sure.
