All Enneagram types are highly responsive to certain things. In fact, this is often a gift that each type brings to the world.

However, what we focus on determines what we miss. When we are more entrenched in our Enneagram patterns, we might attune and respond to certain things to the detriment of another aspect of life.

I bet if you sit with each of these patterns, you’ll notice that more than just your dominant type resonates.

As I was reflecting on 2022, with all of its joys and sorrows, I started to think about those who are having a difficult time finding their joy.

I’ve had seasons like this myself and it’s painful. You start to wonder where your joy went and if it will ever appear again.

Funny enough, when I was talking to my son yesterday…his words hit me like a ton of bricks. He’d gotten some money from his grandparents for Christmas and put it in his wallet. We told him we needed to put it in the bank so that it didn’t get lost. Without missing a beat, he looked at me and said, “You know, nothing is ever really lost.” He’s 6.

Tears filled my eyes. He was obviously referring to losing his money and had no idea I’d just been sitting with this idea of “lost joy”.

Often, kids are the real teachers.

My hope for all of us in 2023 is that we can learn to be there for ourselves through the pain and the joy. And when the pain feels like it’s outweighing the joy, may we remember that “nothing is ever really lost.”

I’m so grateful you’re here. Here’s to 2023!

Regardless of our dominant Enneagram type…we all have a body, we all have a heart, and we all have a mind. The 3 “centers of intelligence.”

A massive component of Enneagram work is becoming aware of all 3 and how to integrate them. Our Enneagram type highlights which center we tend to favor.

The “head types” are types 5, 6, & 7. They each demonstrate a different relationship to the themes discussed here.
