FY2027 Budget Update
After meeting with the Dallas County Human Resources Director to discuss the FY2027 budget, we were informed that the current recommendation to the Dallas County Commissioners is to freeze employee step raises and provide a 3% across-the-board raise to all employees.
NLPOA has repeatedly expressed our concerns regarding the freezing of step raises and has contacted our County Commissioners directly to voice those concerns. Based on the information provided to us, the current recommendation from the Budget Office and Human Resources does not include step increases in the FY2027 budget.
Dallas County law enforcement employees, including employees of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Dallas County Constable Precincts, have continued to show up and fulfill their responsibilities despite mandated overtime, severe weather, staffing challenges, and the additional hours required to ensure operations continued, the jail passed inspection, and all tasks were completed.
As employees of some of the lowest-paid law enforcement agencies in Dallas County, we are deeply concerned about the long-term impact of repeatedly freezing step increases. Employees accepted these positions with a defined pay scale and an expectation of progression through those steps. Continued freezes create the possibility that employees may never reach the top of the pay scale presented to them when they were hired.
We are extremely disappointed with the current recommendation and strongly urge the Budget Office, Human Resources, and Dallas County Commissioners to reconsider freezing step raises before the final FY2027 budget is adopted.
Our employees continue to show up, work hard, sacrifice time with their families, and serve the citizens of Dallas County. They deserve competitive compensation, and retaining experienced, dedicated personnel must remain a priority.
We will continue advocating on behalf of our members and will provide updates as the budget process moves forward.
