If you have a teen or young adult who's trying to figure out their future, share this with them.
There is so much pressure on 16–26-year-olds to have their entire career mapped out before they've had the chance to discover who they are.
The truth? They don't need all the answers today. They just need the confidence to keep moving forward.
Here are six reminders I hope every young person hears:
• Listen to advice, but remember your career is ultimately your choice.
• Build a career around your strengths and what you genuinely enjoy.
• A degree doesn't lock you into one career, but choosing a major that supports your goals can make the journey easier.
• Don't let the search for the "perfect" path keep you from taking the next step.
• Career goals change as people grow, and that's a sign of growth, not failure.
• Don't chase money first. Help your child discover work they'll enjoy, and then build a plan to turn that passion into a sustainable career.
As parents, one of the greatest gifts we can give our kids isn't choosing their path for them...it's helping them learn how to make thoughtful career decisions with confidence.
Save this post for the next career conversation with your teen, and send it to another parent who could use the reminder. 💙
