We’re pleased to share a testimonial from Spirit of America Youth Leadership alumna Sadie Burt, reflecting on her experience at Founding Forward and the importance of civic education.
Sadie, who is currently studying at the Naval Academy with plans to become a Naval Officer, participated in one of the four-day Spirit of America programs last year. Sadie and her group flew to Pennsylvania and stayed on Founding Forward’s Valley Forge campus throughout the program. Through the immersive experience, they learned about the U.S. government, including its formation, the creation of the Constitution, and the philosophy behind it all. Sadie also shared how she got to see the mock encampment of Washington and his troops in Valley Forge National Historical Park. Sadie expressed that she “got to hold the handrail that George Washington used, which was pretty cool.” The biggest takeaway for Sadie was understanding how the Constitution was created and the pressure on the men who wrote it. “It shows how hard it is to make a good government and why it takes so much effort to keep it running as it is."
Make sure to help spread the word about our program, which helps students understand their rights and responsibilities as U.S. citizens while also strengthening their leadership skills. Learn more at www.foundingforward.org !
