Historians of the future will look back at our current era, and they will be shocked, I'm sure, by all the documented evidence of a lack of meaning in the pursuits of individuals.
This is what we built the social internet for, though. To document our lack of meaning more accurately than any other people ever before in history, and to remain as blinkered as we can possibly be, in the here and now.
But there is a way out of this socially constructed panopticon, and a way back to meaning, and we talk about that on the podcast today.
Listen to our episode where we talk about Vladimir Nabokov's book Invitation to a Beheading, with Claire Chandler.

Leadership Lessons From The Great Books leverages insights from the GREAT BOOKS of the Western canon to explain, dissect, and analyze leadership best practices for the post-modern leader. Understanding great literature is better than trying to read and understand (yet) another business book, Leadership Lessons From The Great Books leverages insights from the GREAT BOOKS of the Western canon to explain, dissect, and analyze leadership best practices for the post-modern leader.
Reading remains fundamental. Books are the midwives of a new birth of ideas for the future, and the fourth turning is almost over.

The sense of ironic detachment from leadership outcomes, from people with whom we interact, and from the society in which we live, is weighing us down as a generation of leaders.
It's time for us to let those anchors go.
Thanks to Tom Libby for joining us on the podcast to talk about how Voltaire and Candide can help us cut free from the anchors that weigh us down.

According to the National Literacy Institute, 21% of adults in the US were illiterate in 2024. 54% of adults have a literacy rate below a 6th-grade level (20% are below 5th-grade level).
As the host of a literary and leadership podcast, I am, quite frankly, disturbed by the nature of these statistics. And it's not getting any better, what with all the AI slop flowing like...well...poop...through our social media systems.
So, why would I bother to keep doing a podcast like the one I've been doing for the last four years?
Because literate, critically thinking, and meaning-comprehending leaders and their followers deserve to have their intellect, their consciences, and their faith rewarded.
I look forward to continuing to earn the ears and attention of some of the most literate leaders, visionaries, builders, and executors in 2026.
