Doesn’t Dr. Leaf explain this dynamic well? Would you agree we need to do better when it comes to our accountability and interpersonal relationships starting with family?

Here's what that actually looks like in real families. Someone finally names the pattern everyone else agreed to ignore. Someone stops absorbing blame that was never theirs. Someone says "I'm not doing that anymore" out of a dynamic built entirely on everyone going along with it anyway.

And instead of the family asking why that person needed to say it, it labels them the problem. Too sensitive. Too dramatic. Too different from how things used to run. The healthiest response gets treated as the disruption, because in an unhealthy dynamic, health itself reads as a threat.

Clinically, this is one of the most consistent patterns in families built around avoidance instead of honesty. The person doing the least damage often carries the most blame, simply because they stopped participating in the thing that was causing it.

If you've ever been the one who got pushed to the edges for refusing to go along with something you knew was wrong, that was your mind protecting something worth protecting.

You were the mirror the whole time.

Send this to someone who finally understands why they became the outsider in their own family. 🪞

Oooh I have to go to back to back meetings but this! I work with so many couples who live this anxious and avoidant cycle.

Healthy attachment is achievable and so is a relationship with boundaries and intimacy in sync and rhythm.

It’s good to put a face on it and see help can happen! https://www.facebook.com/share/1DELw74zpA/?mibextid=wwXIfr

YOU JUST NEVER KNOW ❤️‍🩹 While ABC News anchor Janai Norman was all smiles on TV — she was simultaneously suffering from suicidal thoughts, which got so serious, she checked herself into a psychiatric hospital for help.

Four years and one job loss later, Janel is finally ready to share her story in hopes of saving some lives…

Janel says it started when she volunteered to cover a hurricane in the fall of 2022, which she admitted she was “not equipped at all to handle.”

When she returned, the journalist said she began having suicidal ideations and immediately checked herself into a psychiatric hospital for treatment.

It was there that Janai was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which she said forced her to “face the unresolved trauma” she had yet to deal with.

“That really shifted my relationship with so many aspects of my life, but especially with work,” Janai explained.

“It really helped me separate my worth from my work. What I did for a paycheck was no longer tied to my sense of purpose. That was really the work of choosing myself and breaking news barriers and stigmas along the way,” she added.

Janai, who was let go from ABC News earlier this year, shared that her new mission is to debunk the stigma of mental illness by talking about her own experiences.

“Checking myself into the hospital, asking for help, getting the help, getting the diagnosis — that’s what pointed me in the direction of the right kind of therapy that finally started making a difference for me.”

“I didn’t even know that there were so many different types of therapies, but talking about it helps people learn more about it. We’ve just got to talk about it all more.”
