2018 RMCAANA’s President Report

Dear esteemed RMCAANA members,

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the President of RMCAANA this year .
I would like to thank each and every one of you including my colleagues, my peers and my seniors for your continuous advice, support, encouragement and help throughout the year.

We have had a very exciting 2018 year with 2 official RMCAANA meetings in US for the 1st time .

RMCAANA team is proud to share some of the achievements accomplished this year .

Earlier in 2018 RMCAANA team efforts initiated by Dr Sarah Makhdoom were received very well in Rawalpindi surrounding area regarding maternity awareness and this will be continued in the future.

Our Scholarship scheme through APPNA endowment fund is in place for the 3rd year and about $ 4000.00 are being dispersed to 5 RMU deserving students each year to continue indefinitely. The funds have increased since it was started .

RMCAANA team is engaged with RMU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Umar and assisting to provide curriculum needs required to set up different specialties and sub specialties for the full functioning of the Rawalpindi Medical University. This includes review of syllabus, and the goal is to set up audio visual equipment for tele series lectures so that RMU students can benefit from APPNA lecture series . Members in their disciplines are working to compile the given task .

USMLE preparation sessions were started and arranged by Dr Sohail Aman last year and conducted successfully by our members and expected to gain strength with advancements in audio visual system at RMU .

Our all team members including our
Councilor Dr Naveed Butt who himself is doing residency spent hours and hours with RMU students and guided them through Residency process .

RMCAANA has also set up financial aid for deserving RMU students who have passed USMLE and fulfilled the criteria to be able to take interviews for residency purposes in US.

RMCAANA team members have joined hands with APPNA Advocasy group to assist successful RMU graduates to get visas to start residency on time . Finally everyone by July 2018 got the visa and started residency this year.

RMCAANA House Model run by Dr Umar Farooq is being considered at present where graduates can stay , learn and get experience through clinical rotations each year and are able to find residency .

RMCAANA annual meeting held on July 6 at Dallas Texas was very successful with attendance over 100 and next day RMCAANA lunch event arranged by Dr Talat Kheshgi and Music program arranged by the group Raag of Ages headed by Dr Junaid Siddique a Rawalian was received well with refreshing memories. Our Guest of honour Dr Bushra Umar came all the way from Pakistan and addressed our members.

We had 2nd annual RMCAANA meeting on October 5-6 , 2018 held along with the APPNA New York chapter meeting headed by the President Dr Imtiaz Ghumman with Chair Host Committee Dr Farhat Abbas Khan , both being excellent planners and Proud Rawalians .It was a great meeting with high attendance with lot of fun and take home memories. Manhattan sunset with spectacular night view of New York from Yacht along with soothing songs and live music of Naila Khalid was the hallmark of the meeting.

Later this year one of our dedicated member Dr Shazia Zafar donated ambulance to RMCAANA for Mobile Health Clinic in Pakistan through APPNA initiative headed by the APPNA President Dr Hamid Zafar.
Ceremony took place on December 17 at RMU headed by Dr Professor Mohammad Umar and Dr Babar Rao representing RMCAANA along with President MAS Adnan Ali and APPNA President Dr Hamid Zafar.

Medicoes Aid Society operates from RMU campus and will be utilizing this ambulance for tasks such as medical camps , Mobile Rural health Clinics and will be assisting US based physicians and consultants visiting Pakistan donating their time to such noble and voluntary causes .
This project needs funding from RMCAANA members through RMCOF website to make it successful.

RMCAANA is proud of its charitable wing RMCOF headed by Dr Babar Rao under which several projects have been launched. Our members are continuously supporting RMCOF projects . We hope our members support ongoing projects such as Rawalian Girls School in Basti Awan near Darya Khan , an area which was vanished after floods of 2010 and our hope is to keep the school going upto high school.

Dr Shahid Rafiq another Rawalian and Past RMCAANA President is at the forefront of APPNA Merit Program running it very successfully.

Dr Faisal Masud through APPNA education spent dedicated time in Peshawar in ICU at Lady Reading Hospital in July of this year while Dr Unser Khan toured with APPNA Medical team in Pakistan this year assisting various operations.

We are proud of Dr Nadeem Islam who had been very instrumental and tried his best to get few of our deserving RMU candidates interviewed at his Residency program . We need many more like him .

On October 13, 2018 RMCAANA celebrated National Health Care Day initiative of APPNA at my home area of Knoxville Tennessee. About 50 Flu vaccines were administered and various health screening measures were completed.

We hope that in 2020 , International APPNA Meeting takes place at Rawalpindi Medical University and we can take a bus to the Pakistani Parliament in Islamabad and meet with the Prime Minister. So far APPNA Presidential Elect 2019 Dr Naheed Usmani have assured RMCAANA of holding that meeting at RMU Pakistan.

We hope to keep growing and provide our dedicated members for RMCAANA and APPNA welfare and social projects. As RMCAANA President I attended and represented RMCAANA at all forums including APPNA Strategic meeting, APPNA’s SPRING , ANNUAL and FALL Meetings and APPNA’s tele meetings .

In order to improve communication among members, WhatsApp group for RMCAANA was initiated . This year RMCAANA also approved new logo for RMCAANA after RMC changed to RMU .

I am very confident that our new 2019 RMCAANA President Dr Zahid Rafiq will take RMCAANA to the next level and he will have all my support. Our account is in surplus to get him with good start .
I congratulate Dr Samina Qureshi who has been elected President Elect 2019 and confident that future of RMCAANA lies in good hands . She had been a great RMCAANA Secretary this year .

I also congratulate newly elected RMCAANA Executive Council for 2019 and wish them good luck and will continue to work with them as Immediate Past President .

Last but not the least I am very thankful to the 2018 RMCAANA Executive Council for being very cooperative and helpful and putting up with me during this lengthy 2018 year . We stayed in Budget and completed this year with surplus funds for the next Executive Council.

On behalf of RMCAANA team I want to thank everyone one who made an effort to attend the annual event in July 2018 . Special thanks to Dallas host committee headed by Dr Talat Kheshgi for inviting us at lunch and serving us with delicious Afghani/ Persian food and Dr Junaid Siddiqui for entertaining us with his marvelous music and band .
We are very thankful to Professor Dr Bushra Umar who came all the way from Pakistan and honored us with her appearance and received Life time achievement award from RMCAANA on behalf of Professor Dr Muhammad Umar .

I am also very thankful to our seniors and past presidents & executive committees for keeping RMCAANA alive , shining and growing.

Last but not the least RMCAANA team deserves special appreciation for putting up wonderful program and I am very grateful to all executive committee members for their time , dedication and efforts.
