How Do You Know What Others Value?
There is a simple phrase you’ll often hear in negotiations regarding value.
“An item or service is worth what someone will pay for it.”
When negotiations are more complex, determining value often needs a broader discussion of what benefits and behaviors are desired by everyone involved.

Most people don’t ask for what they want—not because they can’t, but because they’ve convinced themselves they shouldn’t.
Are you holding yourself back because you’re afraid of hearing “no”? Real power comes from asking anyway. Start noticing when fear tries to silence your voice—and choose to speak up.

Be a Polite Disruptor – I Double Dog Dare You!
Excuse me. May I bother you for a quick question? Have you ever had someone ignore you or act like you are an inconvenience? Does that type of response shut you down? Or do you see that behavior as a challenge?

Not all leaders or negotiators approach the table the same way. Each style brings unique strengths—and knowing your style can help you thrive in business, leadership, and life.
🔸 Engage (E)
Engagers are outgoing and relationship-driven. They connect naturally with others, inspire through encouragement, and create energy in every conversation. Their strength lies in building trust and empowering people to collaborate.
👉 Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing the D.E.A.L. Styles of leadership and negotiation—so you can discover your natural style, leverage your strengths, and learn how to better connect with others across the table.
Which one do you think YOU are?

Thank you to those who paid the ultimate sacrifice. God bless their friends and family. We spent yesterday with family and thought of those who lost their lives defending ours.

Negotiating Time During Your Busiest Times
❓Have you ever made time when you are really busy to attend an event because someone asked?
❓Did you regret going or are you glad you went?
This week I was glad I took the time to attend an event to celebrate excellence. Turns out two of my friends received awards on stage. Congratulations Salena Brody, Ph.D. on receiving the Piper Award. There are only 10 professors who receive that honor nationally each year. And congratulations to Maria Hasenhuttl on your Presidential Teaching Award of Excellence. Maria is the one who reached out to me from The University of Texas at Dallas. I wouldn’t be teaching at the Naveen Jindal School of Management, UT Dallas without her.
The biggest surprise? My friend Mary Beth Goodrich, CPA, CIA, CISA and I were also among those honored at the celebration for our work. However, we didn’t know it until we read our names in the program.
You can deal with the work on your desk later. Take the time to celebrate the efforts of others. Congratulations to all the recipients!
