Congratulations Class #88.

If you ever took a class with Chief John Ashman as the instructor, you knew that you were getting the very best. His love of the fire service translated into a deep knowledge in all aspects of the fire service with an emphasis on the fire apparatus and hydraulics-knowledge he was so eager to share. If you never took a class with "John Boy" but simply sat with him for a few minutes, rest assured you learned something that made you a better firefighter. And if you didn't talk about the fire service, you were guaranteed to learn a lesson in life, as his stories were always entertaining and meaningful. Please Honor Chief Ashman by sharing what you have learned from him.

It’s with profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Division Chief, John "John-Boy" Ashman. He passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by friends and family who loved him dearly.

Chief Ashman was a 40-year veteran of the Lewisville Fire Department and a Charter Member of the Lewisville Fire Fighters Association. His contributions to our department were beyond measure. Notably, he was one of the first paramedics in the Lewisville Fire Department, marking a significant milestone in our history.

To all who had the privilege of knowing him, Chief Ashman was a mentor, a friend, and a guiding force. He imparted his wisdom and experience not only to the members of Lewisville Fire Fighters but to everyone he encountered within the firefighting community.

His passion for being a fire fighter was infectious. His extensive knowledge of the fire service was beyond any book you could read or training you could attend. It was a treasure trove of information born out of dedication and hands-on experience.

In addition to his remarkable professional wisdom, Chief Ashman was renowned for his sharp humor and his unyielding, spirited personality. He was always up for a good time and had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood, even in the direst of situations.

Throughout his illustrious career, Chief Ashman's reach extended far beyond our department. He readily shared his wisdom and experience with other departments through training and assisting in apparatus design. His phone line was always open for anyone needing advice or just a friendly conversation.

Today, as we mourn the loss of Chief John Ashman, we also celebrate his exceptional life and honor his legacy. We are all better firefighters because of his teachings, his leadership, and his unyielding dedication to service. His influence and impact will forever be felt within the halls of the Lewisville Fire Department.

Rest easy, Chief. We will continue to carry the torch that you lit so brightly, and your legacy will live on in the work that we do every day.

The Collin College Fire Academy stands honorably with the McKinney Fire Department in prayers and best wishes for everyone affected by this tragic accident involving one of our most respected Fire Instructors.
