Oak Lawn Community Center The purpose of this page is to share information and photographs about the Oak Lawn Community Center located in the former Oak Lawn School in Marlow, Oklahoma.

The Oak Lawn School is located on a two acre plot purchased from the James Owens family; the first school building was built in 1908. The original wood frame building faced south, with a porch across the entrance. In 1914, the building was heavily damaged by a tornado, and was placed back onto a rock foundation. In 1915, an additional room was added. In 1937, the building was replaced with one built by the WPA of native sandstone. The sandstone was quarried from the McConnell farm just across Little Beaver Creek. Students were taught here from 1908 until the Spring of 1953. (Details from a history written by Ken Apple). In October 1953, the Oak Lawn Community Center was formed.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Oak Lawn School alumni Ken Apple. Ken was a long standing member of the Oak Lawn Communty Center, and over the years shared many memories and stories of attending school at Oak Lawn as well as stories from his mother, Oak Lawn School teacher Gussie Apple. We will miss you, Ken!!
