Over the past few weeks Mr. Spencer has been getting Miles into improvising with his F # Pentatonic scale. He’s really getting comfortable with creating his own melodies. Here’s to shredding over a jazz jam Strasbourg/St Denis in your first year of piano!

When there’s only 5 minutes for a quick faculty rehearsal…

How would you caption this?👇

It truly is a dream to get to play music and choose songs for upcoming performances with a great team. Teaching doesn’t have to be lonely or monotonous if you’re in the right place.

There’s something so fun about a classic like Alouette.

It’s one thing to learn a piece on your own, but playing in sync with someone else is a whole different skill. Garrett and Willow did such a great job with their duet!

Meet Elmer Tsai 🎶

Elmer’s musical journey began in the sixth grade in Taiwan, studying under the renowned violinist Wang Yen-Hua (王彥驊). His early dedication led to top placements in several national competitions, experiences that forged the discipline and artistry he brings to every performance. After moving to the U.S., Elmer served as concertmaster of the Texas A&M University student orchestra and performed extensively as a freelance violinist, strengthening his ability to connect with audiences through music.

What truly sets Elmer apart is the intersection of his artistic talent and his background as a software developer and mechanical engineer. With a B.S. from Texas A&M and an M.S. from Boston University, he brings a refreshingly analytical mind to his lessons. This technical training informs a structured teaching style that emphasizes clear, step-by-step progressions and healthy technique, allowing him to tailor his instruction to how each student best learns.

Elmer discovered his calling for teaching in high school and now shares his expertise in both violin and piano. Known for his patience and encouraging spirit, he creates a supportive environment where students of all levels feel motivated to grow. Whether teaching a beginner’s first notes or an advanced concerto, Elmer is dedicated to helping every student find their confidence.

💭 His philosophy: “Every student possesses a unique musical voice; my goal is to provide the tools and encouragement they need to let that voice sing.”
