I’ve always known I wanted to go deeper with the body in my own healing and in the work I do with my clients.
How could we possibly believe healing happens only through the mind?
Your body was there for all of it.
The moments you were afraid.
The moments you learned to brace.
To make yourself smaller.
To hold your breath.
To swallow what you wanted to say.
To disconnect from what you felt because feeling it was too much.
Our bodies adapt to what we experience.
Stress and threat can change the way we breathe, move, tense our muscles, perceive sensation and respond to the world around us.
And sometimes, after the experience is over, the body is still responding as though it needs to protect us.

My background as an occupational therapist has deeply shaped the way I see a human being.
I’ve never been able to separate the mind from the body, the emotions from the environment, the past from the way someone is moving through their life today.
I see the whole woman.
And lately, I’ve felt called to bring even more of that into the close-proximity work I do with my clients.
This morning I was doing some bodywork + my Soul Talk method with my husband.
As I worked into different tender, guarded areas of his body, memories started coming to him. I guide him to his subconscious mind to access what his body was still holding. The memories.
What he made it mean about himself.
And then we could see how some of those old conclusions were still showing up today in his anxiety, the decisions he was making, what he believed he was capable of, and even the way he saw himself.
We stayed with the physical sensation.
We stayed with the emotion.
We stayed with what wanted to be acknowledged instead of immediately trying to think our way out of it.
And as his body softened and those tender places became less painful, we worked with what he wanted to believe now.
More self-trust.
More compassion.
More freedom.
More possibility.

This is the direction I’m being pulled deeper into. Healing isn’t just learning to think differently.
Sometimes your mind has understood something for YEARS while your body is still bracing for the old reality.
