BFSA was honored to welcome Coach Rob Evans and his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Evans, for a special event celebrating their lives and achievements. Guests enjoyed a documentary highlighting Coach Evansβ journey, followed by a moderated discussion with Coach Evans and Mrs. Evans.

Please join the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce and the SMU Black Faculty and Staff Association for a special collaborative event this Thursday evening, April 4th, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr. on the anniversary of his assassination in 1968. Our guest will be Rev. Dr. Peter Johnson, a contemporary of Dr. King, who came to Dallas on behalf of the civil rights leader, then returned to eventually champion the cause of Black homeowners in the Fair Park area of Dallas. Don't miss this opportunity to hear Rev. Johnson's account of history in his own words.
The event will be held in the Bank of Texas Dining Room located in the Collins Executive Education Center, 3150 Binkley, Dallas, TX 75205 on the campus of SMU. Networking will begin at 5:30 and the discussion, moderated by Harrison Blair, President of the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Calling all Mustangs! There are two opportunities this upcoming week to participate in community events that celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
π1/12: 32nd Annual MLK Oratory Competition. Come support Dallas ISD's 4th and 5th graders as they present original three to five minute speeches inspired by the teachings of Dr. King.
π£ 1/15: 2024 City of Dallas MLK Day Parade. SMU will be participating in the parade with a float along with the Mustang Band, SMU Athletics, Spirit, and Peruna. Meet at Fair Park at 8:30am for parade staging.

For Women's History Month, BFSA recognized five "Outstanding Women" who are making extraordinary contributions to the SMU community.
Congratulations to Pamela Bailey, Wendelin Donahue, Johnitha Watkins Johnson, Ellicia Money, and Sanderia Faye Smith!
To celebrate these ladies, we took them out to lunch and enjoyed a wonderful fellowship together. If you happen to see them around campus, be sure to congratulate them!
