Tiger Class of 1979 - I humbly approach our classmates and friends, on behalf of Ken Ingram, Bob Beach and James Woods ( not on Facebook ) to request participation from any of you that would care to support The Carroll Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame, and especially the nominees for the 2024 Induction Ceremony, scheduled for November 2, 2024. The final details are currently being ironed out, mainly the venue, so further info will be forthcoming. Each of us four, were honored to be inducted into the Tiger HOF, during the 2022 and 2023 Induction Ceremonies.
Although it was a tremendous privilege to share this honor with many of the greatest athletes, both female and male, in Carroll Tiger history, there is still many deserving athletes from our 1979 Class to be inducted, and our class, after the 2024 ceremony, should be the most represented class ever in the Tiger HOF. Currently, the Class of 1975, has 6 athletes inducted, and the Class of 1979 should have 10 or more inductees, if the voting is correct, especially with your participation.
Here is how each of you can help and participate for this years induction and ceremony; 1. Sign up to become a voting member ( see attached form ), the annual membership is $35 or $300 for a lifetime membership 2. donate any $ amount desired, as all donations will be contributing to our new Tiger HOF Website, which will be launched in 2 to 3 weeks, and also towards our annual induction ceremony, or 3. Attend the induction ceremony on November 2, 2024.
Because the 2023 ceremony and inductees did not include two of our most deserving teammates, Michael Arehart and Steve Mitchell, James Woods and I agreed to serve on the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame Board of Directors, to not help them, because their accomplishments speak for themselves, but to support them, along with Ken and Bob. Each of us has made substantial monetary donations toward a professional website and we ask for your support, as well, especially as voting members supporting our classmates.
Currently, we have a total of 90 athletes inducted, and are still focused on the 1969 thru 1979 time period. Not one inductee, so far, has earned as many varsity letters, than Mickey Arehart’s 9 Varsity Letters, and the second most ever earned, is Steve Mitchell’s 7 Varsity Letters, tied with James Woods, the greatest all around athlete in Tiger history. Also, nominated for this years inductees, and equally deserving are Gwen Meador, Leon Upshaw and David Flores, and of course there are many other classmates that should be nominated and included.
James and I are part of the current board that just amended our bylaws to allow any Carroll Tiger graduate to join as a voting member, which also allows you to nominate up to 5 athletes. Since Title 9 was enacted in 1976, by the United States Congress to allow equal opportunities for women in sports, our sophomore year, it is so apropos, that our Class of 1979, didn’t only include the most Tiger HOF athletes, but indeed the most Hall of Fame classmates, ever. That is what humbles each of us, more than any accolade or award. The goal is to make every band member, cheerleader, Tigerette and classmate part of this process. Lastly, I can divulge that our nine member board has five inductee selections for teams, coaches, contributors, and we have already elected for the 2024 Induction Ceremony, both Coach Butch Gilliam and Miss Billie Peck, the founder and Tigerette Instructor. Next Year, our entire 1978 Football Team will be inducted, as well. Best Regards
