"We're all a little broken and a little shattered inside. Each of us is aspiring to make it to the end. None is deprived of pain here and we have all suffered in our own ways. I think our journey is all about healing ourselves and healing each other in our own special ways. Let's just help each other put all those pieces back together and make it to the end more beautifully." - Ram Dass

Meditation Vs. Hypnosis? Give me meditation!
Because meditation is a state of intense, pure awareness, it works profound changes in the psyche. For the same reasons, and because it operates on the superconscious rather than the subconscious level, it is not to be confused with a hypnotic state.

STILL EYES-STILL MIND Many of us know very well the struggle that comes at the beginning of learning to meditate. That’s exactly why meditation is important. The Mind is a powerful master or servant. We decide which. It’s a wonderful tool when not running amok.
One reason we wrestle so much at first is the eyes. They are designed to gaze all about & take in information and are constantly in motion. Often, the eyes are a sign of what’s going on in the mind. They can truly be windows of the soul. Restless eyes may indicate a restless mind. Eyes that gaze without constantly shifting, usually reflect a calm mind.
If we want to control the mind, why not start with the eyes? If you struggle with maintaining a one-pointed mind, try this.
1. Find your ‘drishti’
Pick a point of the wall directly in front of you that won’t move.
Stick a pushpin in the wall, if necessary.
2. Stare steadily at your drishti (focal point in Sanskrit) for several minutes
Practice this daily for as long as it takes
You want to gaze straight ahead at your drishti for several minutes without blinking, no matter how much your eyes will water.
Once you’re comfortable gazing ahead without blinking or turning away, then you may begin formal meditation. You may either close your eyes or continue with your eyes open. Of course, half-closed is also an option. After practicing calming the eyes, your meditation will certainly deepen. Remember, still eyes – still mind. It may take you a few days to achieve stillness in the eyes. It may take weeks or months, but it’s worth the effort. Be patient with yourself as you go on this journey because the journey IS the destination.
