Homeschooling in Texas is UP!!
"Hear, hear!" Dallas Independent School District's enrollment is down--and by A LOT!
Why? Parents are not sending their kids back to a COVID-1984, Orwellian style school system that is HARMFUL to the SOCIAL and EMOTIONAL health of their children. Instead, parents are choosing to homeschool!
Dallas ISD is the second largest in the state, and we know that what is happening there is happening across the state. As reported by Bethany Blankley:
"The Texas Home School Coalition (THSC) has seen a nearly 400 percent increase in parents withdrawing their children from public schools in the last six months compared to last year.
In August 2019, THSC reports that it processed withdrawals for 1,044 families. In August 2020, they processed 4,055 withdrawals.
The July increase, THSC says, was a 1,500 percent increase from July 2019."

In Dallas ISD, the district is reporting 15,000 less students in their projected enrollment for the 2020/21 school year. Such a drastic reduction in enrollment has major implications to their budget! The Dallas Morning News is reporting that:
"At stake is state funding that is largely tied to average daily attendance. A significant decrease in such funds would wreak havoc on this year’s $1.64 billion general operating budget, which is based on those original enrollment assumptions."
We are glad to see so many parents do what is in the best interest of their children! The public school system is highly flawed even during normal circumstances. And now, it is crisis schooling, where the choice is between distance learning models or sending children to an environment where they demand students wear masks all day and social distance from friends and teachers.
With that said, I doubt the response by Dallas ISD or other school districts will be to improve their policies or the quality of education. It will likely result in an attempt to restrict homeschooling in Texas. It will be especially important to watch out for this in the upcoming Texas legislative session!

It really is time to get our kids out of the public school system!
Have THEY lost their minds? Are THEY that stupid? This is Port Arthur ISD. They want students to wear MASKS in THEIR HOMES, during ONLINE instruction‼️
From a child development perspective this makes zero sense...
A virtual classroom creates a barrier that is not developmentally approprate for elementary aged students.
Masks create another barrier.
Children benefit from seeing facial expressions, as it develops their ability to infer emotion. Being able to read facial expressions accurately is an important skill that is developed in early elementary school aged children. It is important to social emotional development, but it is also a precursor to the academic skill of inferential reading. Basically, we must develop the social emotional skill to be able to develop the academic skill.
Why would Port Arthur ISD insist on creating additional barriers for students?
This is about COMPLIANCE. This is part of their FICTION.
The Public School System is the most liberal arm of our government, and they think they own our kids ! The sad truth is they are involved in the development of most of them. And, they want to develop our kids into compliant adults who DO NOT question authority.
As parents, when we comply with policies that are unnecessary, unreasonable, and damaging to our children, WE ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM.
As Texans, it is not just up to the parents. We are ALL stakeholders in our public school system--we pay the taxes that support them, whether our kids are in their schools or not.
Let's teach Port Arthur ISD a lesson on child development, and ask them why they want to create additional, unnecessary barriers to learning. At the same time, let's send them the message that they don't own Texas children.
This picture is taken from their page...give them a piece of your mind there.

Welcome!
We are a networking community of parents and educators who are connecting in order to create micro-schools and/ or homeschool cohorts in our neighborhoods and communities.
With most public schools going to a social distancing model for the 2020-21 school year, many parents are concerned about the developmental implications this will have on their children. Many parents are also worried about the financial implications of distance learning, as they may have returned to their jobs or work from home, and no longer have the ability to supervise their kids during the day. There are also many teachers who are concerned about the implications of social distance learning in schools. If you are a parent or a teacher who shares these concerns, you are in the right place!
We have a creative solution to the problem of social distancing requirements in public and private schools!
Our solution is a cohort model of education. Cohorts are small groups of learners (up to 20) that meet on a regular schedule. Cohorts can be created in different ways, as a cohort can become a private, micro-school, or it can be a homeschool cohort, or even a tutoring club cohort. The creation of cohorts will depend on your personal preferences and the laws of your state. What we will do is help guide you through the cohort model of education and we will provide the platform for you to network. This network will help you connect with compatible families to create small cohorts and compatible teachers and/ or tutors to help supervise and monitor their learning.
Homegrown schools is an early start-up and in the process of development. Our full website will be online soon, and it will be comprehensive! In the meantime, let's grow our community interest through social networking on social media! There is really no time to waste, as the school year is fast approaching!
In order to create our community, please like or follow us on the Homegrown Schools page. This is where we will have important updates and information that will help you with developing your cohort. Although there will be some networking opportunities here, our groups are where you will be doing most of your early networking, including advertising your cohorts or looking for teachers. We are starting by creating the following groups:
Homegrown Schools (USA)
Homegrown Schools California
Homegrown Schools Texas
Homegrown Schools Oregon
We will be adding groups based on interest and/ or need!
Now, let's get started and grow this community fast! Please share with your family and friends or groups who you think will have an interest in networking and forming or participating in a cohort in their community.
