During Michaelmas season we guide the children through the importance of using courage to prepare for the colder, darker winter months as we begin to feel the impulse to turn inward after the long, warm days of summer, and gather strength to face the colder days and long nights of winter.

Michaelmas is most commonly marked in time with a festival at the end of September or beginning of October. During the festival, the story of Archangel Michael taming the dragon is presented in a creative way through music, crafts and a feast. The taming of the dragon represents our inner courage to face our own inner darkness with compassion and curiosity. We cannot defeat it, but we can befriend it and “tame it.” It is the season that challenges us to find balance between light and dark.

Surely, joy, celebration, and good food will be shared by all at our first annual Michaelmas Festival! Friends and family are welcome!

“Where is the book in which the teacher can read about what teaching is? The children themselves are this book. We should not learn to teach out of any book other than the one lying open before us and consisting of the children themselves.”- Rudolf Steiner. Humbled by my lovely teachers🌈

Celebrating Winter Solstice at the Play Garden with a full heart and a full school! The love and support I have had from families and my community is humbling. Thank you for believing in my work and in reverence for children💞

“So the Shortest Day came and the year died
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow‐white world Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.
They lighted candles in the winter trees; They hung their homes with evergreen; They burned beseeching fires all night long To keep the year alive.
And when the new year's sunshine blazed awake They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them Echoing behind us ‐ listen!
All the long echoes, sing the same delight, This Shortest Day,
As promise wakens in the sleeping land: They carol, feast, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends, And hope for peace.
And so do we, here, now, This year and every year.
Welcome Yule.

Join us this Sunday at Elmwood Farm for our annual Lantern Walk. We will be celebrating the harvest season by cooking stone soup with our neighbors.

Bring a vegetable and as a village, we will add our contributions to the pot and share in its warmth and nourishment.

Elmdale days… opportunities for children to experience all of the elements of the earth is essential. It nourishes their soul. Pumpkin soup warmed our bellies as we welcome the cool weather.
