Strong Readers
"Advocating for literacy in TX. Empowering communities & creating lifelong readers.”
We’re proud to announce the launch of the first Decodable Hub in Dallas, a major step forward in ensuring all students have access to evidence-based reading materials grounded in the science of reading.
This new model empowers educators with the tools and resources they need to build strong foundational literacy skills, starting in our own backyard. It’s the beginning of a broader effort to expand access across Texas and improve reading outcomes for all students.

Dr. China Pippin, an Early Literacy Instructional Coach at Mesquite ISD, emphasizes that literacy “is beyond academics – it’s about how you communicate and understand what you communicate. [Literacy] builds the foundation for students to function in life as they grow up.” With a focus on literacy in their latest Pre-K-3 initiatives, Mesquite ISD has introduced skills-based small-group instruction to meet individualized student needs. These efforts not only enhance academic success but also reflect Dallas County’s continued focus on strong foundations to improve early outcomes.

As a Commit Partnership initiative, everything we do supports our shared vision: "By 2040, at least half of all 25-34-year-old residents of Dallas County will be provided the opportunity to earn a living wage." Early literacy is a key milestone on the path to a living wage. Follow us at Commit and Early Matters Dallas for updates on our ongoing work.
