A few years ago, any Google search for “Rohingya” led to stories and images of suffering and little else. Genocide enacted by Myanmar’s military threatened to blow out the last burning flames of the soul of the Rohingya culture. But we are thankful that suffering, while still very real and ongoing, is not the end of the Rohingya story. Through the efforts of language preservationists such as Mr. Mayyu Ali and others, the beauty of Rohingya language and culture can live on and light new flames in the hearts of the next generation. It is an honor to share about these new books, Boson and Solluk, so that the world can begin to understand the ancestral knowledge, wit, and wisdom of the Rohingya people.
