Labor Day is celebrated each year in France on May 1st. “𝐋𝐚 𝐅ê𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐮 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥” (Labor Day) is a national holiday that is recognized for its rich history and traditions of appreciating others and advocating for workers rights.

The tradition of celebrating Labor Day with flowers is very unique to France. This goes back to the 16th century when King Charles IX of France was presented with a bouquet of Lily of the valley on May 1, 1561. He liked the flowers so much that he decided to present the ladies of his court with a bouquet of lily of the valley each year on May 1. This tradition later gave the French Labor Day the nickname “𝐋𝐚 𝐅ê𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐮 𝐦𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐭.” (Muguet is the French name for Lily of the valley).

Le muguet and dog rose are a big part of Labor Day celebration in France. People in many places give these flowers to loved ones. In general different festivities or “manifestations” (as the French like to call them) are organized to commemorate “𝐋𝐚 𝐅ê𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐮 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐚𝐢𝐥.” Parades and demonstrations are organized to campaign for workers’ rights. People also use these events to advocate for human rights, demonstrate against racism or highlight current social issues in France.

My favorite activity is "𝕷𝖆 𝕷𝖔𝖎𝖗𝖊 à 𝖛é𝖑𝖔" (𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝐁𝐢𝐤𝐞.)🚵🚴‍♀️ A cycle trail that follows the Loire River down towards its mouth near the Atlantic Ocean 🌊 with several stops along the way for scheduled activities & fun visits to different Loire Valley châteaux.🏰🇱🇨

How do you pivot from "one day" to "Day One?!"🤔 Well, you simply make the decision.

The pivot only happens when you decide to pivot. Period. When you decide that today is "Day One" to start that project you've been putting off forever, when you decide to send that message you've been thinking about sending for the last two weeks...

For me, my pivot today was finally sending that message to my new favorite author about obtaining the rights to translate her new book into French.🇫🇷 So exciting!!!😃

Want to have fun while learning to speak French? 🇫🇷 I want to help you do just that. Here are 3 tips to help you have fun with French and keep you eager to learn more:

1️⃣ Learn French from your English speaker prospective. French and English share more than 50% of their vocabulary. Use this as your foundation and take advantage of the fact that you don't have to start from scratch.

2️⃣ Have a compelling reason for learning to speak French. Start with the end goal in mind and use that mindset to stay motivated. Your end goal should exciting to keep you interested...

3️⃣ Start speaking French From Day 1, not one day. Start putting together small French sentences on your own and see your own results. Don't be afraid to make mistakes and trust that your French will greatly improve along the way. Come back to it regularly and make improvements to your sentences as you improve yourself.

So, what language did English borrow most of its words from?🤔 If you answered French, you're absolutely correct!!👏👏👏

This goes back to when Norman aristocrats (from Normandy, France) led by the Duke of Normandy conquered England in 1066 and ruled during the Medieval times, making French the official language of the English court until the end of the 100 years War in 1453... Wow, that's a very long time!!!😮

So, if you're thinking 🤔 about learning to speak a second language but don't want to start from scratch, French gives English speakers a big break, especially when it comes to building your everyday vocabulary in French... Ouiiiiiiiiii, j'aime ça!!! ❤️👍

Because of the early influence of France on the English court, nearly half of the English vocabulary is derived directly from French. This meansstrong foundation and quick gratification for you along the way!!🥇😆👏

Ever heard the saying "Little by little the bird makes its nest?"

Is fear of making mistakes keeping you from speaking French?😱

If so, I just want to let you know that making mistakes is actually a very good thing because it shows that you're trying. And the more you put yourself out there and speak, the better your French will become. 🗣️

The key to improving your French isn't to avoid making mistakes. It's to actually make mistakes (lots of them!!) and learn how to correct them. But you can't correct mistakes if you don't make them, right?🤔

So, stay consistent in making mistakes and correcting them and before you know it you'll make less mistakes and you'll transform your French into something beautiful!!🦋💕
