15 steps to ensuring your student’s success and avoiding those dreadful phone calls!

1. Keep your cool!
2. Develop a relationship with your child’s teacher/principal.
3. Be transparent!
4. Remember you are a part of the team and you know your child best.
5. Be an active part in developing a behavior intervention plan for your child.
6. Get an advocate or friend to help keep you solution focused.
7. Talk to your child and listen intently.
8. Talk to and listen intently to the teacher or staff involved.
9. Ask Questions to help you learn more about what happened.
10. Identify your child’s triggers
11. Develop an action plan.
12. Help decide why you want the school to try with your child before they call for your help.
13. Remember Safety is most important. If they think your student is unsafe you will be called.
14. Pop- Up at the school when necessary to check on your student.
15. Volunteer as much as possible. Even if you can’t go in person, think about how can you support at home.
