🚨 POLITICAL HISTORY IN HOUSTON 🚨

A major chapter in Texas political history was written Tuesday night.

In a highly watched and emotionally charged runoff for Texas’ historic 18th Congressional District, ΩΨΦ brother Christian Menefee secured the Democratic nomination with nearly 68% of the vote.

The race brought together two powerful figures of Black leadership and Divine Nine legacy:

What made this race even more significant was the deeper cultural layer behind it all. Because of a Republican-led redistricting plan, two historic Black leaders were pushed into the same district, creating a rare political showdown between generations, legacies, and two of the most influential fraternities in Black America.

For many across the Divine Nine, this was more than politics.
It was history.
It was legacy.
It was the changing of a generation in real time.

Respect to both brothers for representing Black leadership on one of the nation’s biggest political stages. ✊🏾

When major institutions pull back, our community steps up. Always.
We’ve been keeping a close eye on the situation out at the University of Missouri (Mizzou), where state and federal DEI restrictions recently forced the university to strip away crucial, long-standing designated funding from the Legion of Black Collegians (LBC)—the historic Black student government that has protected and voiced student needs on that campus since 1968.
For a minute, the campus atmosphere felt heavy. But you already know how the Divine Nine and the historic Black church pull together when excellence is under attack.
Enter Kappa Alpha Psi’s own Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley and the legendary congregation of Alfred Street Baptist Church!
During a powerful sermon, Dr. Wesley announced that the historic 220-year-old Virginia church is stepping directly into the gap to fully fund Mizzou’s Black student government! They didn’t just write a check; they helped the students establish an independent 501(c)(3) to keep their legacy completely protected from outside political pressure.
As Dr. Wesley beautifully put it: “When you won’t support us, we will support our own. We take care of our own people.” 🏛️✨
This is the exact blueprint of self-reliance, community care, and leadership we love to spotlight. From wiping out student debt for HBCU seniors to preventing hundreds of local family evictions, Alfred Street keeps showing the world what faith in action looks like.
