Le***ans are Miracles (***ansaremiracles) No 6: 🔥 The Black Le***an Rises 🔥, guest edited by , founder of ***anarchives, is HERE!

Huge thank you to Lisa Cannistraci and Ms. Alyce Emory and Wen Peguero of for lending us your time, knowledge, wisdom, and grace. As always, enormous gratitude to all of our contributors and collaborators who made this issue possible!

Krü writes,

The Black Le***an Rises speaks to the embodiment of the Black woman, the Black le***an rising from the ashes like the phoenix! Throughout LGBTQ+ history, there has been an intentional erasure of le***ans, specifically Black le***ans, and of our revolutionary contributions around the globe!

I’ve seen the Legacy of our Elders (Owl and Wise alike), the shoulders that we stand on be disrespected within and often suppressed from the community. Young and even elder le***ans shy away from claiming and being le***an because of stigmas, societal expectations, and the lack of understanding of our true herstory.

But if you only knew how rich we are! How rich our stories are! It’s time to get back to our roots. We come from lineages of godmothers, elders, and ancestors that had a vision, not for just le***ans but for the entire world. Archivists, builders, artists, holistic health practitioners, astrologers, warriors, activists. Everything we are.

We Rise because there’s a transformative power in the Black le***an.

We Rise for the women that have paved the way for us.

We Rise because we’ve always been here!

“Even with more resources being dedicated to LGBTQ issues, Black/African Descent le***ans are still consistently marginalized with few public spaces dedicated to addressing issues unique to us. This marginalization unfortunately continues in shared Black LGBTQ spaces which results in Black/African descent le***an lives, issues and contributions being systematically minimalized or dismissed. This also occurs in shared Black LGBTQ in le***an specific/welcoming or women-only spaces which frequently address "women of color" issues and refuse to genuinely address the unique challenges Black/African descent le***ans constantly face. With this marginalization comes less to no funding or other resources that address our needs. Because of this, Alyce D. Emory and Kim L. Ford, two NYC community workers & activists, developed Beyond Bold And Brave, as a solution to this issue.

Beyond Bold & Brave works to increase the visibility of Black/African Descent Le***ans* in our communities by supporting and producing programs, projects and events that responsibly and truthfully affirm and represent Black /African Descent Le***an life, work and identity. We define Black/African Descent Le***ans* as a diverse community of women who are: part of the African diaspora including Black, African, African-American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latina, Afro-Asian, Afro-European; identify as transgender, cisgender, gender non-conforming, q***r, same-gender loving as well as additional identities; and are attracted to and/or have relationships with women.”

Happy Aries Season y’all and New Year! Hope all the seasons treated you good up until this point.

This new year season is a time for cardinal change! Trying something new and doing something different! Using this Aries fire to pioneer into this new journey!

Speaking of a new journey! The BLA just finished up The ACHÈ Project Virtual Exhibit and is now kicking off The Mobile Herstory Bus Project 🎉

We are in the between stages of where we have been and where do we go from here? With the BLA Mobile Herstory Project we will undergo the conversion of a school bus that will allow us to reimagine the way we see and build our communities and archives. Through the arts, community, and culture. Touring across the U.S to connect through storytelling, media and grassroots organizing.

I understand that some are not interested in registering to donate to the Kickstarter and it’s all good! There are many other ways to support.

You can visit:

And share with your tribe when you can! Thanks for your support and we will see y’all soon! 😝

”Audre Lorde – the Berlin Years 1984 to 1992 documents Audre Lorde’s influence on the German political and cultural scene during a decade of profound social change, a decade that brought about the fall of the Berlin Wall and the re-unification of East and West Germany. This chronicles an untold chapter of Lorde’s life: her empowerment of Afro-German women, as she challenged white women to acknowledge the significance of their white privilege and to deal with difference in constructive ways.Supported by Lorde’s example Afro-German women began to write their history and their stories and to form political networks on behalf of Black people in Germany. As a result authors such as May Ayim, Katharina Oguntoye and Ika Hügel-Marshall published their works. Audre Lorde – The Berlin Years 1984 to 1992 outlines Lorde’s contributions to the German discourse on racism, xenophobia, antisemitism, classism, and homophobia within the Black movement and the Black and white women’s movement, a discourse alive and growing today. Present-day interviews explore the lasting influence of Lorde’s ideas and the impact of her work and personality.” ***anarchives ***ans ***anarchives ***anhistory

Much Love to for the write up 📌it was good talking to ya boo

“Black Le***an Archives to document, share the story of black gay women for generations to come.

Ask le***an activist Patricia McCombs whether she saw women who lived, loved, and most importantly, looked like her growing up pre-Stonewall, and her answer is swift and firm.

“Never,” said McCombs, a Chicago woman who, decades later, would play an unexpected role in changing that pattern. Her work as a party promoter and vocal le***an rights activist earned her a spot in the Black Le***an Archives, an Atlanta-based historical preservation project looking to document and share the story of black gay women for generations to come.

Comprised of nearly 1,000 scrapbooks, audio files, videos, poems, newsletters and photos, the exhibit is an effort of Krü Maekdo, who this month kicks off a 30-stop traveling tour. Her goal: highlighting the existence of what many consider a marginalized community within a marginalized community.

The tour kicks off in Atlanta, and will include a Feb. 23 showing at Charis Books and More. It will wrap up this July in Chicago, where Maekdo got her archiving start.

What she’s discovered so far ranges from the everyday to the exceptional. There are magazines detailing regional black club life, and screenshots from popular underground movies. Black-le***an-authored books and newspaper clippings, flyers, and copious pictures of black women of all ages living out and proud” ***anarchives ***ans
