Encourage your young children who are just starting to write to sound things out as best as they can. Do not focus on spelling everything correctly.

If you will empower them to listen and write what they hear, you will create a writer.

Toddlers don’t need workbooks or apps!⠀

They need us to practice letters, sounds, and to have conversations with them!!!⠀

These things take time, but they pay off hundredfold when it’s time to read and write.⠀

We used to call it sounding out words, and I still do…⠀

Your kid’s teacher might call it stretching out words.⠀

It’s what makes reading possible, especially when you get into 1st and 2nd grade.⠀

Progression for practice:⠀

— beginning sounds⠀
— ending sounds⠀
— middle sounds⠀
— stretch whole words⠀
— stretch words for writing⠀

I’ll share more in stories!⠀

Have you worked on patterns with your kids?

01/12/2022

Start with fun, engaging, hands on activities.

This cements the concept.

Patterns are all around is. The more kids can recognize them, the easier things become!

Have you noticed your child sorting or organizing their toys?

01/08/2022

Does your child sort or organize their toys?⠀

Have you ever talked to them about it or asked questions?⠀

Next time, sit down with them and talk.⠀

❤️❤️❤️⠀
