What a beautiful evening at Sony Studios raising money for The CARES Foundation! Thanks to Dina Matos for inviting our band to entertain and for honoring me as a community partner! We had a blast. Congrats to Dr. Rink and Robert Farber as honorees. The evening was flawless with Dinner by Wolfgang Puck, music, dancing and lots of generous people working together to find a cure for CAH.

Our family is beyond grateful for the outpouring of compassion and support at the memorial service for James Richard Shirey, Sr., His sudden passing was a shock to our family and we are so appreciative of the love and support shown to our family. Over 350 people showed up to pay tribute to a man who was a friend to all. We are comforted knowing he is with James, Jr. and his Dad, Jackđź’” Rest in peace Jimmer. Thank you to all who showed up and to all the wonderful donations to the James Shirey Foundation, Inc.

Matt Shirey wrote this beautiful tribute for his Dad: All are welcome to the service:

James (Jim) Richard Shirey born May 6, 1962, passed away on the evening of 24 October 2024. Jim was a proud father, brother, and son who valued his family above all and who strove to give his children an incredible upbringing in Coronado, CA.
Jim was born in Cupertino, CA and moved to San Diego when he was 19 years old to join his father in a new business venture, The Mission City Auto Auction. Jim and his family grew the company over the next 20 years and eventually sold the business and Jim retired at the age of 40. Jim was an entrepreneur from the time he was 13 years old, starting numerous businesses and exemplifying hard work and dedication to his children and family. His love for his family and friends and his passion for the ocean and boating defined his life.
Jim leaves behind a loving family including his son Matt, age 27, of Coronado, CA, his mother Darlene Shirey of Coronado, CA, his sister Janet Manosalvas and brother-in-law Juan Carlos Manosalvas, Coronado, CA, his brother Jack Shirey Jr. and sister-in-law, Nancy Shirey, Coronado CA, and his brother Ken Shirey and sister-in-law Lissette Shirey, Imperial Beach, CA and Sue Shirey, mother of his two children and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his first-born son James Richard Shirey Jr. in January 2009.
We take comfort knowing that Jim is in heaven with his firstborn son James and his father, Jack, enjoying eternal fair winds and following calm seas.
A memorial service will be held Sunday November 10 at 3 p.m at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club 30 N Caribe Cay Blvd, Coronado, CA 92118. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the James Jr. Shirey Foundation, Inc.

Before the James Shirey Foundation, Inc. was a thing, I kept a legacy blog. I haven't visited it in a while and going back to read my own words of my grief journey is like reading about another person. As I've healed, changed and grown over these past 15 years and my life is nothing like I could have imagined back then, I feel extremely blessed and can see how God used that pain in my life. I would always pray for God to help me endure the pain, not to take it away because I knew that wasn't possible. If you are going through a tough time, pray that God can help your heart endure and know that he is by your side if you have faith.
