5 THINGS TRAINERS NOTICE ABOUT A NEW LOPER 👀

And here’s the thing…

A trainer isn’t just evaluating your riding.

They’re evaluating you.

Your punctuality.

Your attitude.

Your attention to detail.

How you treat the horses.

How you act when nobody is standing there watching.

Because when someone hires you, they’re trusting you with something incredibly valuable.

Their horses.

Save this if you’re building your career in the industry. 🐴

And experienced trainers/lopers: what would you add to this list?

LOPER 101: What does a trainer notice FIRST? 👀

It might not be your riding.

Before you’ve even swung a leg over the horse, your trainer is already noticing:

⏰ Are you on time?
👀 Are you paying attention?
🧹 Do you see what needs to be done?
🐴 Do you take care of the horses?
🤝 Can they depend on you?

Your riding ability matters.

But being dependable is what builds trust.

And trust is what turns a job into a career.

Lopers — what do YOU think trainers notice first?

Apparently “trainer’s wife” is just the job title. 😂

The actual job description is approximately 47 pages long.

Some days I’m the wife.

Some days I’m the bookkeeper.

Some days I’m the marketing department.

Some days I’m the show secretary.

Some days I’m the photographer.

Some days I’m solving a problem I didn’t even know existed 30 seconds ago.

And somehow…

dinner is still expected. 😂

If you’re new to the loping world, save this one. 🐴

There are things you learn from riding horses…

And then there are things you learn from working in the industry.

The second category can take years to figure out.

So here are 10 things I wish every new loper understood from day one.

Which one would you add?

👇 Experienced lopers: give the beginners your best advice in the comments.

LOPER TRUTH #1 👇

Being a good rider doesn’t automatically make you a good loper.

The trainers I’ve watched succeed don’t just need someone who can sit on a horse.

They need someone they can trust.

Someone who:
✔️ Shows up
✔️ Pays attention
✔️ Takes care of the details
✔️ Communicates
✔️ Works hard
✔️ Notices when something isn’t right
✔️ Does the job even when nobody is watching

Your riding ability might get you the opportunity.

Your reputation is what keeps it.

Send this to a loper who needs the reminder. 🐴

Who said visual management is just for the office? 👀

A little barn hack that can make a BIG difference! 🐴

We use a visual schedule so everyone helping at the barn can quickly see the daily chores, procedures, and what needs to be done—without having to remember every detail or ask a million questions.

It keeps everyone on the same page, creates consistency, and helps make sure nothing gets missed. ✅

Simple systems = smoother days at the barn.

Save this idea for your own barn! 🤠
