We encourage everyone to get outside and participate in the Great Southeast Pollinator Census! 🐝🦋🌼

Grab your counting sheet, find a plant, and see who stops by!

🦋The Great Southeast Pollinator Census 🦋
Join this citizen science project that began at UGA and has spread across the southeast. Go to GSePC.org to download the counting sheet and watch tutorial videos on how to count. Then go outside anytime August 21 and 22 to count. Pick a plant to observe for 15 minutes. Count how many pollinators land on the plant. Then upload your counts to the GSePC website. It's an easy and enjoyable way to help out a greater cause!
You can do the count on your own, or you can join us at the Leon County Extension office on Friday 8/21 from 10 am to 12 pm to do the count together. We'll teach you how to count, and provide the counting sheets you need.
There is also a Pollinator Census event at Maclay Gardens State Park on Saturday 8/22 from 9 am to 11 am. There will be information on planting for pollinators provided.
Pollinators are not all bees and butterflies. We will be counting our less appreciated pollinator friends as well, such as flies and wasps. They all play an important role in the ecosystem. Find out more here: https://blogs.ifas.ufl.edu/sarasotaco/2022/09/14/pollinators-its-not-all-about-the-bees/

Growing a garden takes teamwork and this project had plenty of it! 🌱

Our WEI instructors and students joined members of the Student Government Association to help build and plant the new community garden on Tallahassee State College's main campus.

Thank you to everyone who rolled up their sleeves to help bring this space to life. We can't wait to see the garden flourish and become a place for our campus community to enjoy!

Fresh produce? Don't mind if we do.

Today's harvest from our Small Plot Farming students made its way from WEI to Talon's Market Pop-Up on TSC's main campus, where students could pick up fresh produce at no cost.

From bell peppers and cucumbers to eggplants and tomatoes, every vegetable was grown through hands-on learning and shared with the campus community.

Hands-on learning never tasted so good. 🫑🍅

Here's a closer look at restoration in action 🦪🌊

Our team recently conducted a check-in on the oyster domes in Oyster Bay, monitoring water quality, measuring carbon content, and tracking oyster growth along the way.

Oysters play an important role in aquaculture and coastal restoration by naturally filtering water and supporting marine ecosystems.

Flying a drone is more than takeoff and landing. In our Unmanned Aerial Systems class, students learn how to assess risk before flying, respond to unexpected situations, and prepare for the FAA Part 107 certification exam.
